Hi everyone

I was taking 1 gram of NAD a day for about a month, noticed I was able to go without food at breakfast.

Then last week, palpitations, only mild, nothing I've not experienced in the past and I've had normal heart tests.  I wondered if the NAD is reactivating my thyroid, as I take levothyroxine for hashimotos / underactive thyroid and have done since 2000.  Do we know anything about that?

I guess the best thing to do is get thyroid checks, not easy when the doctors only want to do it once a year and we are in the middle of lockdown, but where there's a will.

I noticed I was able to fast easily every morning, but then got terrible indigestion and stomach pain for the last week.  I'm guessing stomach acid, although it could have been an infection.  It's subsided now.  Has anyone else had anything happen at the start of taking NAD?  Was it wrong to stop it, are there bad effects from missing doses?  Just curious.

Unfortunately NAD from food or supplements gets broken down to nicotinamide, NR and NMN in the GI-tract. The molecule is too big to be absorbed so the body breaks it down into its precursors and then use them to rebuild NAD+ within the cells.

I wouldn´t waste money on oral NAD-supplements when you can use the precursors l-tryptophan, nicotinic acid, NR and NMN instead.

Digestion and absorption of NAD by the small intestine of the rat

Abstract

A number of preparations of varying complexity have been used in an effort to elucidate the reactions by which NAD is hydrolyzed to nicotinamide during intestinal digestion.

"Perfused or intact intestine rapidly hydrolyzed NMN to nicotinamide riboside, which accumulated, but was not absorbed. It was slowly cleaved by an enzyme associated with the mucosal cells to nicotinamide, which was the major if not the only labeled compound absorbed."

I have heard that thyroid medicine needs to be reduced after taking NR.
