Although  most people with COVID-19 get better within weeks of illness, some people experience post-COVID conditions. Post-COVID conditions are a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems people can experience four or more weeks after first being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Even people who did not have COVID-19 symptoms in the days or weeks after they were infected can have post-COVID conditions. These conditions can have different types and combinations of health problems for different lengths of time.

These post-COVID conditions may also be known as long COVID, long-haul COVID, post-acute COVID-19, long-term effects of COVID, or chronic COVID.

  Common long COVID symptoms include:

extreme tiredness (fatigue)
shortness of breath
chest pain or tightness
problems with memory and concentration ("brain fog")
difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
heart palpitations
dizziness
pins and needles
joint pain
depression and anxiety
tinnitus, earaches
feeling sick, diarrhoea, stomach aches, loss of appetite
a high temperature, cough, headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell or taste
rashes

fibromyalgia drug investigated as treatment for 'Long Covid'

TNX-102SL is a sublingual form of cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride. The drug is designed to provide rapid transmucosal absorption and reduced production of a long half-life active metabolite, norcyclobenzaprine, due to bypass of first-pass hepatic metabolism, according to the company. TNX-102 SL binds and blocks serotonin 2A, alpha1-adrenergic, histaminergic-H1, and muscarinic-M1 receptors. It is being developed as a daily bedtime treatment for fibromyalgia, PTSD, alcohol use disorder and agitation in Alzheimer’s disease.

'Long COVID' in children

This study: Radtke T, Ulyte A, Puhan MA, Kriemler S. Long-term Symptoms After SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Children and Adolescents. JAMA. 2021;326(9):869–871. doi:10.1001/jama.2021.11880
found

a low prevalence of symptoms compatible with long COVID in [...] children

This finding has been used to argue for a reduction in lockdown measures in countries where most adults had the opportunity to get vaccinated
This thread is NOT about that issue
- while the risk of exposing unvaccinated children to potential 'Long Covid' has important policy implications, discussions about lockdown measures should be taken up in a different thread.

Moreover, "symptoms compatible with long COVID" were also found in children who did not have COVID19
This finding could be used to argue against the prevalence of 'Long Covid' as such.
That is a relevant topic for this tread, but please ensure all arguments are backed up with study data.

At least some of the media surrounding "Long COVID" was completely fake.

A lot of bots have been used to push fake COVID hysteria online over the last two years as well.

The stuff you post is weird, Mind. Really weird.

Of what relevance is one faker to the general issue of long COVID?

People should be careful to vet sources. When someone is spreading obviously false information, it should be highlighted.

Probiotic success

"Scientists have now made a further breakthrough with a second capsule containing natural ingredients such as chamomile and pomegranate.

In the first study Prof Thomas showed treating the gut to a blend of five different friendly bacteria called lactobacillus probiotics, combined with a chicory-rich ingredient known as an inulin, helped with symptoms."

FYI, The first sentence of Mind's post is a link.

It takes you to a blog that discusses a story from the New York Post, and more generally in the news, about a Dr. who presented herself on Twitter as a frontline treating physician in the Covid Pandemic. She was not, had a different medical job, and mostly worked from home. Actual tweets  are posted.

She had a series of tweets about her long covid cadre of pediatric patients, urging parents to have their kids wear masks, and get vaccinated.,

Turned out her stories and advice were BS.

So, the post was not weird, and did deal with long covid.

It dealt with long COVID in a way which tries to trivialize its severity. Long COVID is most likely just a form of myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), and studies have found ME/CFS is the second worst disease you can possibly get, in terms of the very low quality of life (the number 1 worst in the study was COPD in terms of very low quality of life).

It certainly is, and it a very slow death already almost death. However some, do recover 'spondantaniously', and fast. And after tend to trivialize too.

Worst of my collection of chronic illnesses was a walking-disabilty from PAD, secondary to that the main symptom ME/CFS suffer from and even worse: PEM (constant postexertional malaise). Walking disabilty ended after 7 long years of counter efforts (or spondantaniously, if you can't believe as you did in the past), constant PEM after 10 years of efforts. Though still not as fit as before (13 years ago), nothing compared to those disabilities before.

A COPD stage1, I felt as a regular chronic bronchitis for 1 year only, after its remission already 9 years ago it remained asymptomatic. So compared, a stroll in a park.

Which shows it can be very individual how much one suffers from a certain condition. Or not.

PS: all those year I suffered very severely from seasonal rhinitis too, only this year for the first time it didn't came. I only can explain with a similiar experience of my father, for whome at about the same age (without my other chronic conditions) his allergies ceased suddenly too.

-ivermectin

-low dose naltrexone

-melatonin, aspirin, vitamin D/K2, vitamin C

Lots of people using niacin flush for long covid, including Dr. Richard Urso

Commonly taken with melatonin, R-Lipoic Acid, NAC, Serrapeptase, and intermittent fasting

Dmitry Kats protocol (Niacin, TMG, creatine, R-Lipoic acid, Bvitamins)

https://twitter.com/...229672250916864

https://hom3ostasis.com/protocol/

If the goal is to restore NAD+(Drmitry certainly is), I think  renewbyscience NAD+ gel would be a better option, also comes with resveratrol

At the very least I would add resveratrol to his protocol

Is Long COVID in non-hospitalized patients a Mass Formation Psychosis?

Patients reporting persistent symptoms early on are getting better, while those who did not have persistent early symptoms are developing them many months after infection.

The highly cited LANCET paper about long COVID is being reviewed for errors and being monitored by Retraction Watch.

Recall that the LANCET also published a completely fake study about how HCQ did NOT work.

Recall that the LANCET assured everyone that there was almost NO chance that the SARS-CoV2 was created in a lab.

In regards to long COVID, while I think it is overblown and mainly among people who had multiple health problems even before catching COVID, I don't think it is completely made-up. I do know of at least two people who lost their sense of smell for multiple months after catching COVID. They are otherwise recovered and perfectly healthy.

Another article summarizing the "long COVID" research conducted so far - not finding anything very concrete or actionable. No one can agree on a set of symptoms. Most people recovered in less than a year. After careful filtering and comparison with controls, the cases of long COVID are very few.

One thing that did always sort of bother me about Long Covid was how soon people were talking about it after the public awareness of the pandemic. It seems like it was maybe 2-3 months into things where I started to hear the phrase. I remember thinking at the time "we aren't far enough into this to be talking about "long" anything".

A peer-reviewed Norwegian study does not find much correlation between COVID infection and "long COVID". The symptoms which have been unscientifically labeled as "long COVID" are highly correlated with lack of physical activity and loneliness (in this study).

Interview with Dr. Vaughn and Kory on Long Covid treatments

Start in at 26:32 in this video, 27:56 for Dr. Kory

Paper discussing Dr Vaughn's triple anticoagulant therapy

Similiar to Dr. McCullough's Nattokinase, Bromelain, Curcumin treatment

Dr. Kory appears to have the most comprehensive treatment, much of it posted here

Any treatment would benefit from a low inflammation diet - Limit Sugar, bread, pasta, and fried foods.
Limit salt and caffeine to improve blood pressure. Grounding also improves blood flow

In this review it is found that the best predictor of Long COVID is someone who had a previous mental illness or anxiety disorder. Obesity is a good predictor as well. Not everyone who claims to have long COVID has mental issues, but it is common.

A recent study out of Europe claims that long COVID is no different than long-lasting symptoms from any other respiratory virus. They are NOT saying long COVID is NOT real, just that it is nothing new.

The trouble with long COVID studies is that they are mixing together several different diseases all under the one name. That's really quite unscientific.

About 60% of long COVID is ME/CFS. Another 20% is autonomic dysfunction such as POTS. Then about 10% is heart and lung damage. These are all different diseases, so should be studied separately.

That is quite correct. The diseases that COVID can cause such as ME/CFS or POTS can also be triggered by several other viruses.
