I am 54, female, and for a few years some fingernails have been becoming a bit ridged, especially my thumbs.  Most annoying are weak ridges that run through the centres of both thumb nails (worse on my left) which result in continual vertical splitting of the free (white) portion of the nails.  Very incovenient!

My nails are relatively strong except for these very weak ridges.

I take so many supplements that I can't imagine I could be short of anything.  I've got it covered, including Biotin.  I also take good care of my facial skin so my nails get a daily dose of the same good stuff.  I am generally well and in good nick for my age.

Is there anything that can be done?  Of course the usual 'advice' is that these ridges are a "normal" part of aging - grrr, not acceptable!!  There must be something I'm missing - a way to reset, or improve, the quality/smoothness of the growth of the nail.  Any solutions you've found?
