It appears this substance is made by depolymerizing agarose. Agarose can be bought via agar powder, which is used as a food supplement and for some medicinal purposes.

I am thinking about taking agar powder from time to time.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these supplements?

It looks like the agarases needed to get Neoagarotetraose from agarose are only found in marine bacteria. So just eating agarose or agar is not likely to work.

Interesting. That looks right. I was thinking that the body might metabolize it into neoagarotetraose but that does not appear to be the case, as far as I can tell.

I believe it’s simply an oligosaccharide. Its molecular formula is C18H28O14 which certainly fits a carbohydrate along with the -ose suffix.

Here they are producing it using S Boulardii in vitro but not without some genetic modifications.

I would wonder though if other oligosaccharide prebiotics might have a similar effect, such as galacto-oligosaccharides, which are offered online.
