I'd appreciate your views on this.

I have a friend that's always been emotionally labile, but has empathy and is caring.  In the last couple of years he seems to be 'refusing' to show sympathy or support in conversation in the normal way.  He's always been a difficult character and has been through a lot of stress, a relationship breakup and of course the lockdowns etc.

But the other day we were talking about the attack on the world trade centre and he said he was at the local shop talking to the shop keeper when the first tower went down.  This isn't correct.  I was.  He was at the house.  I came back to the house and told him.  I know it's a long time ago, and he's never had the best memory and has adhd, but this seemed like a confabulation.

It's the only one I've noticed.  Am I being picky.  I want to help.

I did tell him about NMN and as he always says, he doesn't remember to take things like supplements.  This is a stable thing, he's said that for twenty years.

All his friends tell me there's nothing wrong and nothing different about him and I can see why they are saying that.  There isn't.

Except in this community we want to preserve health.

He told me he'd take NMN after I told him about it (benefits and some unknowns about it).

Do we know anything about NMN's ability to protect the brain?  My friend is a very young 65, eats extremely healthily and everyone thinks he's in his early 40's.  I'm just a little concerned for him and would value your viewpoints.  Thanks.  (also should I worry about that 'confabulation' or not, does anyone know?  I've got a very thorough long term memory, to a fault almost, so am I being too concerned)

Actually what prompted me to post here was this:  He's on ritalin.  I have wondered if he needs the dose lowering as he seems to be racing mentally, as in mildly manic.  Nothing dangerous, just pressured speech, excessive energy, and fitting in so much work into a day people wonder how he's doing it.

He's always been like that, but it's more so.

I've asked him to speak to the doctor about lowering the ritalin (he's not abusing it, I'm sure of that)

But he did start taking NMN a year ago and he mentioned on the phone that "that stuff you've given me, I think it's too strong,"  I asked what he meant and he said he felt like he was racing physically and mentally.  So I suggested he stopped it until we knew more.  And he hasn't taken it for a year.

So now I'm thinking it's the ritalin and he's going to speak to his doctor about it.  If he calms down, then maybe he might want to try NMN again.  Another reason I think it's the ritalin is that he's lost way too much weight.  He's always been thin, but never too thin.

So if anyone can offer their thoughts on all this, ritalin's effects and NMN, I'd appreciate it.

Was he not just showing off? Your version of what happened during 9/11 is way more interesting than what his version was (probably sitting at home in his underpants or something).

Thanks, it's a good thought.  There was no one but him and me so I don't think he was showing off, but his 'confabulation' would make sense in that I don't live in his town, I was only staying with him all that time ago as I was off sick from work and he invited me to stay there for a break.  So yes, in theory, it would have been him at the shops and not me.  From that point of view and the fact that I've not stayed there since then, it would make sense and hopefully isn't of concern.  He's in a very small town, knows everyone, is always at the local shops, so it's certainly forgivable, I was just worried as he has other problems like adhd and stuff.

Thanks  :-)
