Some very interesting studies, Dr. Ardis dug out of the literature:

Tough I really doubt Nicotine alone works 100% (what does?). Two of my co-workers got severe long covid, both with shot and smokers.

I recall seeing the reports nicotine might be helpful way back in the early days, when they saw remarkably few smokers in their ICU's in China.

I noticed nicotine is one of a very few "lipid soluble alkaloids" consumed by humans; one of the others interestingly is quinine, precursor to the chloroquine family of meds.  Caffeine and theobromine (in chocolate) round out the list.

I recall one of the theoretical mechanisms for hydroxychloroquine was that it penetrated the lipid bi-layers of cell membranes and "alkalized" the organelles where final assembly of viral replication occurs.  The organelles are typically quite acidic, and when alkalized, the virus has a difficult time with its assembly, which should at least slow viral reproduction, buying precious time for the immune system to rise to the task of killing the beast.

I recall Dr McCullough was always on about a "multi-drug" approach to treating COVID, and we shouldn't put too much faith in a single magic bullet.

Heck Yea!  Let's throw some lipid soluble alkaloids into the mix.  It couldn't hurt, and nicotine/caffeine, gin & tonic and chocolate are a great way to pass the time when you're sick & in isolation.  On concern about the nicotine is that topical application (through smoking) might be most effective at getting high concentrations to lung or upper respiratory tissues.
