Hey everyone,
Well Im JUST starting to get into nootropics and am looking for a quick profile of my current state. Im a bodybuilder (not competitive, just interested in lifting) and am currently eating a high protein/low fat diet. 19 years old, male, 5'5", 123lbs, 6-7% BF, blah blah blah.

I am ADHD taking 27mg Concerta for the past two months but not enjoying it and switching back to 36mg next week which Ive taken for the past few years.

I take creatine (various forms of the same molecule) and nitric oxide, supplement BCAAs.

I take Animal Pak a multivitamin with a ton of crap in it but I think its causing me problems and this is my main concern:

-(as calcium pantothenate) Calcium (as citrate, carbonate): 2g
Phosphorus: 228mg
-(as calcium phosphate)
Iodine (from kelp): 150mcg
Magnesium (as oxide): 133mg
Zinc (as oxide): 30mg
Selenium (as selenite): 50mcg
Copper (as sulfate): 600mcg
Manganese (as sulfate): 11mg

Performance Optimizers:
Siberian Ginseng (root): 2g

Chromium Picolinate: 50mcg

Ox Bile (bovine): 120mg
Pancreatin: 700mg
Mycozyme: 64mg

Now. My problem is that I experience a serious brain fog and anxiety in social situations. I feel like I cant turn my mind off sometimes and believe this has to do with the lower dosage of Concerta that Ive been on for two months - hence my switch.

If the experts around dont mind, could you please comment on how everything Im taking looks (because I know theres stuff I should cut) and, for bonus karma points, maybe suggest a starter blend of nootropics? My main question is what could be causing my anxiety in social situations and what I could to help that and just generally improve brain function.

Many thanks to all in advanced for any and all replies!

Hey Josh:

First, since you are taking Ritalin, you might consider taking a tyrosine supplement.

Ritalin is an amphetamine, so your tyrosine levels might be depleted.

Does anyone else have any comments?

I have a social anxiety problem as well, although it manifests itself in a different way, for me it seems as if my mind shuts down in social situations. My IQ is high, bu I wouldn't be surprised if it dips below 70 when i'm trying to be social. This needless to say makes it difficult to interact.

The medical gold standard for social anxiety seems to be klonopin (a benzo) or nardil, though the latter probably wouldn't sit too well with the concerta. Unfortunately my psychiatrist (really a nurse practicioner, worked only with indigents) refused to prescribe either, instead giving me higher and higher doses of gabapentin, zoloft, and wellbutrin, which were remarkably ineffective. In the "alternitive" side theres not too much, I would experiment with the following.

Carnosine
Taurine
Deprenyl
Choline

The first 3 have worked somewhat well for me, although without sustained effect. For me the most effective and sustained by far has been plain ol' choline bitartrate, at very high doses (5-10 gm of actual choline daily). I have never heard of this being effective for anyone else before, so your mileage may vary.
