Hey all,

I just finished writing a new song yesterday called "What Separates You From Me" and put it up on my music site at http://www.iddl.vt.e...rfentres/songs/ .

I also completely redid the site interface using a pretty cool Flash-based interface, and added a lot of links to interesting Transhumanist sites (one or two you may not even be familiar with).

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think.

I like the song Hugh and the signal comes through pretty well on even my Carrier Pigeon Modem LandLine. Nice clarity for the acustics and the bufferring seems to be effective (but not perfect) at preventing disruption and interference.

The PDF layout is a little sterile but practical. It does appear to have a little glitch with playlist menu that doesn't fit the window quite correctly and won't allow expansion. There is also a slight glitch on the right side where unnexplained and inaccessible text also overlaps. Basically it seems as if there is a waste of ara on both the left/right sides that would be better served if the operating page filled the open window.

All that said, I am still impressed at the combined aspects you have put together with this approach and the abiity to blend linkages, multimedia, and text. Does it do visuals too?

Also it didn't load at all in AOL but that doesn't surprise me lot's of stuff won't load.

Laz,

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback!

=Lazarus Long]Nice clarity for the acustics and the bufferring seems to be effective (but not perfect) at preventing disruption and interference.

Do you remember exactly where you experienced buffering problems?

=Lazarus Long]The PDF layout is a little sterile but practical.

Yeah. I haven't had time yet to try to make it pretty.

=Lazarus Long]It does appear to have a little glitch with playlist menu that doesn't fit the window quite correctly and won't allow expansion.  There is also a slight glitch on the right side where unnexplained and inaccessible text also overlaps.  Basically it seems as if there is a waste of ara on both the left/right sides that would be better served if the operating page filled the open window.

Actually, you should be able to grab the right edge of the playlist menu and expand it. Could you tell me a little more about what you mean by "unnexplained and inaccessible text also overlaps"? As far as the waste of space, unfortunately, I was limited with the size of the two main panes. The left one had to be large enough to fit "The Other Side," the song with the really long lines. That meant that for most of the other songs there is a lot of wasted space and the links pane is somehwat truncated. I could have made the panes resizable, but that would have taken too much time to code.

=Lazarus Long]All that said, I am still impressed at the combined aspects you have put together with this approach and the abiity to blend linkages, multimedia, and text.  Does it do visuals too?

Thanks again. It could do more visuals, but, again, I haven't had time to work on that yet. Did you have something in mind?

=Lazarus Long]Also it didn't load at all in AOL but that doesn't surprise me lot's of stuff won't load.

How odd. Did it prompt you to install the latest version of the Flash Player when you tried to view it in AOL? It should have. If not I need to fix it. What exactly happened when you tried to use AOL to view it. Thanks, in advance for taking the time to help me troubleshoot it.

Now, what a man does in the privacy of his own home with his own Bible - well, that's between him and the Good Book, now ain't it.

I'd just lend a caution about papercuts. They AIN'T yer friend....

Having said that - Hugh, the "playlist" tab (at least on my screen) still shows "rom" in "What Seperates Me From " - the "You" only shows as a back-tick. Add in that the text of the song, when it first came up, was half-a-character too far to the left. The initial capitals were half-obscured. Fixable by click-and-drag in the pane, but not clear unless you've diddled PDF's a bit. (No, folks, no papercuts there! But it can be an amp-ly re-volt-ing experience, all the same..)

Later....

In reverse order:
How odd. Did it prompt you to install the latest version of the Flash Player when you tried to view it in AOL?
AOL sucks, so starting with this premise it is a diminishing return argument as to how much effort you want to put in to make it work there. It has nothing to do with the flash player, which AOL and my IE6 browser have. It is probably related to firewalls and other problems the portal uses. I block pop ups with my AOL account and forum PM will do the same thing, just freeze a window open as a blank page.

As to visuals I have been playing a lot with varius synchronzed visuals from the latest Win Media player and a few other suppliers and it is a nice effect to create randomized graphics that can be coinicident with the music. But is isn't that important. Other images could be like running a Power Point presentation of specific images overlayed like a slide video on top of your music. It's not MTV but it could allow you an added level of artistic expression with images from religious iconography to current events, from Heronymous Bosch to Bush.

On the right hand of the screen are some strange text that run off to the side and does not appear to be anything to do with the actual page but some program script that didn't load correctly. On the left the song menu tab works fine but but seems to not close properly and on both sides there appears to be an added zone that doesn't do anything except reduce the overall size of the open window. I suggest accessing it from someone elses computer to se how it appears when not in your control program.

I chalk up the bufferring problem to my end, so don't sweat the small stuff. I am still lucky when I can get a 36Kbaud hook up with no squirrels eating and fornicating on the cables, so this isn't the something to take too seriously because most people get a better connection.
Laz,

You are welcome, and for that matter thank YOU for the fine music [!]

Also as a last piece of advice, don't put ANYTHING inside the brackets for the text command.
{QUOTE=Lazarus Long]
You are disabling the command and that is why you aren't getting a text box around the quote. Just include the name of the person after the command. (asteriks inserted to dissable) [quote*] text [/quote*]

So low and behold I try to teach and find there seems to be another command glitch forming here. [angry]

I'm tellin BJ [!] [ph34r] You broke da forum you, you, you artist you [!]

[ggg] Keep up the good work and all the good times rolling :)

I just figured something about the command problem too. When you include those (=) signs inside the brackets it sets up some kind of 'logic loop' that denies all like commands from loading inside the specific post.

Well it sounds good for a hypothesis, though it could be coincidence that I was able to fix this one by adding some space separators and changing one command bracket.

Okay all,

Just realized what the problem was. I'd set the size of the flash movie to scale, which in some instances meant that stuff that was "off the stage" was visible. I've now set the size to an absolute value and now you don't see the stuff you're not supposed to see. Just make sure you clear your browser cache before viewing it again. Hitting the refresh button usually does this, but if it still looks funky, you may have to actually mmanually empty your cache to avoid seeing the old page.

Damn! It pisses me off that I didn't test it better before posting it. Sorry. Oh, well. Live and learn. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Congratualtions on finding your glitch and it was a pleasure to be of service.

I edited your post to test my theory about blocking commands, but I didn't change anything. I just thought you would want to know why my signature was there. But it does seem to be a valid hypothesis I am working with too :)
