mitkat and FunkOdyssey was talking about it in another thread...I've been thinking about it myself too...

I'm not trying to eliminate lipoic acid, but there are so many forms out there so which works best I'm not very sure.

So on top of taking lipoic acid...

I'm thinking of stacking ALCAR with good amounts of Chlorophyllin, NAC, Grape seed extract with Vitamin C along with a diet rich in antioxidants(naturally occuring + supplemented).

What do you think?

Use the search function and look up lipoic acid. It has been explained in great detail. RLA appears to work at a much "deeper molecular level" where alot of ATP is produced from mitochodria; thus stopping the damage before it starts so to speak....

Carnitne ups ATP production which causes more oxidants to be produced within the mitochondria. To prevent damage to the mitochondria, you will want an antioxidant that can work within the mitochondria. Lipoic acid can work within it, whereas many antioxidants cannot. For use with carnitine Dr. Ames used PBN (N-tert-butyl-alpha-phenyl-nitrone) instead of lipoic acid in the beginning, but he switched due to the price and availability of lipoic acid. I would stick to lipoic acid if you are concerned with oxidants created by carnitine.

This thread has a lot of good information, including a speech by Ames, a talk about what form to use, etc:
