So you're a Seventh Day Adventist?

No. However, I'm a strong believer in the vegan diet and keeping the Sabbath. The Seventh Day Adventists don't keep the Feast of Tabernacles, the Passover, etc. I'm for keeping all the Holy Days God gave Moses to give to the Israelites. I follow the teachings of the United Church of God an International Association, and similar churches, in this respect. See their free booklets here and here. I'm not member of the United Church of God because they believe in meat eating and money making according to Old Testament law. They believe these practices will continue into God's Kingdom on earth.

A couple of months ago, I became involved with a very small, independent Church of God (Seventh Day). They keep all the Holy Days and the Sabbath to the best of their ability, but they also believe in eating meat and making money (even though they're on the brink of bankruptcy). I've been trying to convince the pastor to start teaching the flock that the vegan diet and the communal sharing of all property will be the practice in God's Kingdom during the Millennium. I'm having a little success.

Again, I urge you to give up the pagan practices and false doctrines of the catholic and protestant churches. Their practices and doctrines were established by man, not by God. The problem we're experiencing with atheism is largely due to the counterfeit Christianity being palmed off on the public as the truth. Intellectual and scientific minded people see the sordid history of the false churches and the serious contradictions in the religious practice of the people and want no part of it.

To those read this post that might not want to delve into the Bible I will
say this. Christianity is following Jesus. Jesus is alive. Christians follow Him.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who
follows Me will not walk in the darkness,..."

ALSO:

I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died.

Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;

for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Stephen wrote> Jesus is above the Sabbath. (stephenszpak)

Scripture here:

And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain.
The Pharisees were saying to Him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"

And He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;

how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?"

Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

"So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

http://www.biblegate...er=2&version=49

More here:

A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, "Do you wish to get well?"

The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me."

Jesus said to him, "Get up, pick up your pallet and walk."

Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

So the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, "It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet."

But he answered them, "He who made me well was the one who said to me, 'Pick up your pallet and walk.'"

They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Pick up your pallet and walk'?"

But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place.

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, "Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you."

The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

But He answered them, "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working."

For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

stephenszpak, you have stumbled on Paul's teachings which can be very difficult to understand sometimes - a common problem these days. See 2 Peter 3:15-16. Paul was not talking about vegetarianism which was not an issue during New Testament times. Paul was talking about the practice of not eating meat from the meat market because of fear that it had been sacrificed to idols - a common practice in those days. Now compare Romans 14: 1-23 with 1 Corinthians 8:1-13. If you do a thorough research in Bible Encyclopedias and Commentaries, you'll find they say the same thing. The Christian Vegetarian Association recognized this misunderstanding too. See http://www.all-creat...hgc-replies.htm (8th paragraph down).

You also have to understand that God tried to start man out on a vegan diet in the beginning, but was thwarted from establishing it permanently as a result of disobedience and the "craving" of meat. See Genesis 1:29-31; Numbers 11:4; Deuteronomy 12:20. As the best possible solution at the time, God then showed the people how to make meat eating healthier by draining the blood (Genesis 9:3,4; Leviticus 7:26,27), by removing the fat (Leviticus 3:16; 7:22-24), and by distinguishing between the clean and the unclean meats. Leviticus 11:1-47; Deuteronomy 14:1-21. You should checkout the United Church of God booklet that covers this issue, at http://www.ucg.org/booklets/CU/. You don't eat pork by any chance do you? See Isaiah 66:17.

It is fairly clear to me that God plans to reestablish a vegan diet - with fish eating - in His Kingdom on earth during Christ's reign. See Isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25; Hosea 2:18. Because God didn't make a covenant with the "fish of the sea" in Hosea 2:18 and because of Christ's miracles of feeding the masses fish and eating of fish after His ressurrection, I believe fish eating will be permitted during the Millennium. See http://en.wikipedia....n_vegetarianism. Fish eating if done right is very healthy too. See http://en.wikipedia....for_consumption.

Jesus is no doubt the Lord of the Sabbath as you indicate. He did not, however, do away with it
He only indicated that under certain circumstances Sabbath violations would be forgiven and that it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Jesus kept the Sabbath and indicated that he didn't come to abolish the Sabbath law and that it was to be kept right along with the most important matters of the law. See Matthew 5:17-19; 23:23 and http://www.ucg.org/booklets/SS/.

First I can see you put a lot of effort into your reply, many links.
I quickly scanned them.

The foods and Sabbath stuff refers to the law (of the Old Testament).

If you wish to keep the law you *must* keep *all* of it, including circumcision,
and all the rest of it. Picking and choosing is not permited.

=================================================

For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM."

Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM."

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE"--

http://www.biblegate...er=3&version=49

===================================================

Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--

things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

and all the rest of it. Picking and choosing is not permited.

Circumcision is a perfect law and practice that God commanded through Abraham. Genesis 17:9-14; 2 Samuel 22:31-33; Psalm 19:7; James 1:25. Jesus was circumcised and He recognized it as a lawful requirement. Luke 2:21; John 7:21-24. Did you know that circumcision is saving lives today? Checkout this article at http://www.alertnet....k/L25164827.htm. No telling what other health benefits of circumcision will turn up in the future.

All those Scriptures you cite are Paul's teachings that are very easy to misunderstand as I said above. Paul was not one of the 12 Apostles and had no authority to create any new doctrines that teach something different than what Jesus taught or what the Old Testament prophets gave us. If you took Paul's numerous and difficult to understand letters out of the Bible you would still have a perfectly good Bible for understanding God and His plan for the salvation of mankind.

Again, it's the very confusing teachings and the contradictory practices brought about by paganized Christianity that are pushing more and more people into atheism. We need to simplify the teachings more and to live in harmony with them under a depaganized Christianity if we're to make any real progress in life.

I believe what Paul said only where it is clear what he's saying and when it's consistent with what Jesus taught and what God gave the prophets.

LOL, Mark I found you! ;))

If I had a video cam I would do one too, perhaps not in as lively a fashion however...what's with the Captain America impression? [tung]

I would like to do one where I actually interject a small sampling of legitimate philosophizing into the challenge. Still, as a form of activism, the Blasphemy challenge is not without merit. Fostering a sense of solidarity among atheists is something of great importance in a nation desperately in need of a little rationality.

It says "Added December 18, 2006 From advancedatheist." So is this Mark in the video? I'll have to put the elijah whammy on him if he gets too out of hand.

How come we can't post youtube videos anymore? Will this change in the future?

Again, double thanks on leaving that embed error in your post. You inspired me to figure out how it works. I've learned a lot off Immortality Institute forums. I'm sincerely grateful to you guys for the education.

I'm going to try this Google video. Ta da!
