The Immortality Institute's Monthly Writers Competition

Submit your article concerning the potential benefits or problems of human physical immortality.  We're not looking for perfection, just good ideas.  Winning articles will be published to the homepage of the Immortality Institute.

Good Luck ;)

But for an artist, nothing less than complete and utter perfection will do ;))

Now, would that be by midnight on September 6 or by midnight on September 7, or somewhere in between? :)

Heh... let's say 12 Midnight PT before the end of the day on Sept 7th (California Time: PT Before 23:59:59). Anything posted on September 8th will be added to the Oct. Competition.

Just for grins BJ ;) I must tell you Midnight is the Zero hour, in other words the beginning, not the end of the day. What you have said is a contradiction.

But it is a wonderful example of how popular misconceptions create issues where there really aren't any, well almost none, assumption should always be suspect and circles aren't the exact same thing as cycles.

The last minute of the day is officially 23:59, or 11:59 pm. In other words any submission ON Sept 7th will be accepted by the rule you are trying to provide. By the way it is from this fact of time that we get the expression; "The eleventh hour", which is used in a variety of linguistic manners to describe the last minute.

In the future when you describe the entry rules for an event, if you say for example "through Sept. 7th" instead of "by Sept 7th" there would be less ambiguity. But I think most of us get it anyway.

Thanks Laz... it's always a treat to learn something new... and this is a good example of how human intuition is inadequate at times at contemplating simple mathematical truths.. or rather it reveals the interesting and sometimes puzzling problems we face when mathamatica reaches a limit in a series. Note.. The Singularity and The Infinitie and even the simple problem of when the millennium begins and ends... 2000/2001... I've also recently read a book called Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea by Charles Seife, Matt Zimet Amazon

Why did the Church reject the use of zero? How did mystics of all stripes get bent out of shape over it? Is it true that science as we know it depends on this mysterious round digit? Zero opens up these questions and lets us explore the answers and their ramifications for our oh-so-modern lives.

Since ther are only four contributors to this contest Ihe rest of you should feel encouraged to comment. I am refraining simply because I am a contributor. And please vote as well. It appears that very few people have actually voted; is there a reson many of you don't want to vote? Or have you just not made up your mind?

I think all the contributions to this months articles are very good and I thank each of you for your contributions and those of you reading our work for your interest.

Be well all,

Yes, Laz... I would like to encourage all of us to make some sort of comment about each article. It's the very least we can to thank the authors for their time and effort.

That doesn't have to be tonight and could go on for some days.

Opinions folks?

Yes.. we'll keep the voting open for the month of Sept.

So each month we'll have a new group to vote on...

On the first, voting will end for one group and start for another.
