Many defintions and statements about Nootropics/Racetams floating around cyberspace (including some in IMMinst.org - sorry guys) are 'truisms' with no facts to back them up. While that does not mean they are false, let's base our brains, lives goals and ambitions on what works ONLY.

(Remember the world was obviously flat until minds had opened to compare assumed facts with conflicting data).

PLEASE:
A) Point out any errors, disagreements, or clarification we state here.
B) ALWAYS include the source to back up your statement(s)

Nootropic Knowledge Base Questions:
NKQ1) What is a Nootropic? What is a Racetam? Are they the same?
NKQ2) Specifically, how do they work? Chemicially, eletrically, receptors, cells, etc. Each one of course works a little differently. I library of these descriptions would be awesome.

NKQ3) Harm - -Are they truly harmless?
By themself? Interacting with other Nootropics? Interacting with other drugs? Psychologically?

NKQ4) Tolerance - Is there REALLY no tolerance build-up to Racetams? Many say so, but if....

NKQ4) Nootropic:
Def1) a synonym for psychotropic and was first proposed (1972) by Mr. K. Jourges, the author of a medicine called "Pyracetam" which activates the integral functions of the brain, stimulates learning mechanisms and improves memory and intellectual capacities. http://www.organicgermanium.net/germanium_claims.htm
Def2) natural or synthetic compounds that have a positive effect on 2 or more processes of cognitive functioning or mental performance. http://www.imminst.org/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=169&t=169&s=
So....are Racetams a subset of Nootropics?

NKQ2) Specifically, how do they work?
Chemicially, eletrically, receptors, cells, etc

NKQ3) Harm - Are they truly harmless?
By themself? Interacting with other Nootropics? Interacting with other drugs? Psychologically?

NKQ4) Tolerance - Is there REALLY no tolerance build-up to Racetams?
Many say so, but if cells include adaptation in their reproduction, and cells reproduce every few weeks, would high levels of any substance decrease the number of receptors in the next cell generation? (Biology of beliefs - Book by Bruce Liption)

I hope we can build an organized, solid, easily understood knowledge base so we can ALL make our lives as powerful as possible and avoid unnecessary pitfalls.

A similar idea has been floated about a generic life extension portal to keep track of supplements people take and their biomarkers over time. If anyone would like to coloborate on some kind of nootropics database i'd love to do so.
