Here is a software attempt at passing the Turing test that many of you may find interesting. It is called SILVIA and the acronym stands for Symbolically Isolated, Linguistically Variable, Intelligence Algorithms. I am curious what many of you think aobut this approach and what you know about it.

Background

Leslie has served as a consultant for various videogame and entertainment companies. He has also worked for entertainment giants such as Electronic Arts, Disney, and Sony Pictures.

For several years, Leslie was the head of Graphic Tools Development at Electronic Arts.

At Disney Interactive, he was the head of the Software Tools team, and also served as a Technical Director for external projects.

As a Principal Engineer and Software Architect at Sony Pictures, Leslie was responsible for creating the software architecture of "Screenblast", Sony's on-line content creation and sharing service.  He also personally developed the content management system and all of the associated user tools.  Finally, Leslie is personally responsible for developing four patented software technologies, as well as for shepherding those patents through the entire patent process.

Leslie was also involved in graphics R&D and responsible for developing all of the custom front-end user tools at a Los Angeles computer animation studio.

More recently, Leslie has developed SILVIA, a new artificial intelligence system designed for natural human/software interaction.

Hmm, very interesting, he did a nice job on the interface there... however, I was hoping that he would do something to show off its *reasoning* and *critical thinking* skills, like some sort of thought test... oh well.

If you took away the pretty face, the nice voice, and the (apparently well developed voice recognition), it seems that it is on par with just about any other chatbot... I don't see anything special in comparison with chatbots like Alice and such... don't get me wrong, I'm sure it took a lot of hard work... but I don't think approaching things from the "chatbot" direction will be very fruitful (assuming he is also shooting for AGI)...

I hope he does well in the turing test, but from the looks of it, he still has a very long way to go...
