Aadam brought up an interesting question to my post on Dr. Daniel Amen (specializes in SPECT)
aadam "I'm surprised he doesn't say anything about cerebral metabolism increasers like Vinproctine. Why wouldn't he? Out of all nootropics related to the research he does, that should be one to look into."

For you neuroscientists and science buffs out there, I was curious...for all these purported "cerebral metabolism enhancers" (Gingko, Vincopentene, and I think it's been alleged for many other nootrops like piracetem?), how do they test the enhanced cerebral metabolism? Do they use fMRI, SPECT? I'm just curious because many of the articles I read mention that these are "purported" cerebral metabolism enhancers and that "the mechanism of action is not known, but we think it works by increasing cerebral metabolism." It seems that with functional imaging it should be possible to answer pretty definitively whether these things do or do not increase cerebral metabolism?

Anyway, just curious if anyone knew this off the top of their head and could enlighten me. Yes, I know I could do a quick review of the literature and review the "methods" sections, but if someone knows off the top of their head that would be great =).
