I've been taking green tea extract with 250mg of EGCG 3 times a day (750 a day) plus drink 3-4 cups of jasmine green tea (unknown EGCG content). I'm thinking upping my dosage by 50% to 375mg 3x per day. What are you guys taking? What prompted this was some reading I was doing on Rentlessimprovement's website (info from AOR) :

"By contrast, the most consistent epidemiological evidence for a protective effect of green tea comes from the consumption of ten cups or more of Japanese sencha per day."
...
"Japanese sencha, the “gold standard” cup of green tea can contains 150 milligrams of EgCG"
...
"If you’re looking to use green tea for longevity and to guard against age-related disease, it only makes sense to get the best-backed dose of the best-backed molecule. Indeed, it’s these kinds of doses – 800 to 1600 milligrams of EgCG per day that are being used in the human clinical trials that have begun in the last few years."

I do not believe there is 150mg of EgCG in a cup of sencha that is water extracted, even though I keep seeing quotes in literature referencing it as such. All the evidence that I have seen show it is significantly less than that. I provided a few papers in the full member forum that showed 150mg of EgCG per g of sencha was determined through alcohol extraction, which should mimic sencha powder ingestion. Although, when you use a water extract, it will be way less. For example, matcha water extraction gives about 0.32mg EgCG per g of leaf, where an alcohol extraction gives about 50mg EgCG per g of leaf. I sincerely doubt all those surveyed drank 10g of powder sencha a day.

So, to me, 800 to 1600 milligrams of EgCG would be considered mega-dosing to the extreme. I would be doing that with certain types of cancers, but I would not do that day to day when healthy. The 800 to 1600 milligrams of EgCG is especially high if 800mg+ was taken at once, as this study shows it gives ">60% increase in the systemic exposure of EGCG, possibly because of inhibition of presystemic elimination of this catechin."

I am taking one of LEF's green tea mega and two cups of powdered sencha a day. This dose is likely well above that in the Japanese study.

In conclusion, be cautious on the "150mg" per cup and "800 to 1600 milligrams of EgCG per day" statements, even though they are everywhere.

I drink powdered sencha throughout the day. Usually not very strong though.

BTW, after reading cnorwood's links I've decided to remain at 750mg of EGCG a day.

I just received the BAC Green Tea powder to replace the caps I just ran out of from my local co-op. I will be taking 1-1.5 scoops per day, that should be 250-375mgs/ day of EGCG, along with the other catechins and small amount of caffeine.
