The song Turn by Travis can be interpreted as a inspirational Immortalist song as well as a call to action. Especially this part of the song:

I want to feel forever young
I want to sing
To sing my song
I want to live in a world where I belong
I want to live
I will survive
And I believe that it wont be very long
If we turn turn turn turn turn

I actually think Travis is talking about Immortality here. I would recommend using this track in future documentaries and films about immortality. I think it will give a nice artistic and poignant touch if used at the right time. Hey, how about doing something even more crazy like requesting Travis to PERFORM the song at the next formal meeting? What do you guys think?

I LOVE Travis! This song is great. "Sing" from their other album is one of my favorite songs.

I love Travis as well !

I'm no so sure if they'd want to perform but you never know, they are set to release another album in a few months and might be doing publicity tours. As my mother would say, "If you don't ask, you don't get".

If it's of any interest I have links with Fran and the boys and I'm due to catch up with their former manager in the next week or so, if you like I'll see what their tour/recording plans are. Can't promise anything but like you say, don't ask...

Sentinel,

It would great if you could ask them about this. Of course, there will need to be an occasion for them to perform the song......preferably at the next Immortality Institute meeting, Transvision 2007 or the next Singularity Summit. I have always felt that getting famous people to attend these conferences will help increase public awareness. Just look at what Bono is doing for charities. Travis is also involved in various fund raising activities. If we are ever going to bring these issues to the forefront, we will need all the help we can get. But, I wonder if the group (Travis) has ever thought about Transhumanism and the technological innovations that might lead to Immortality. Maybe you can find out. Best of Luck!

Sanjay,

If I'm perfectly honest I don't think Fran is into Transhumanism, Immortality etc but things may have changed (although
it's not necessarily something that comes up over a coffee!) I'll drop our mutual friend a line now and see when he's back in the country.

Sentinel,

Even if they have never thought about these things, maybe we can tell them about it. I know that Fran has been involved in various Fund Raising events lately so they defintely want to help....who wouldn't?. Maybe we can simply request them to attend the next Transvision 2007 just to get an idea of what's going on. They don't even have to perform. Just the presence of famous people will get people's attention. I think the organizers of Transvision 2007 are still looking for speakers. William Shatner is one of the speakers but I think it wouldn't hurt to have some really really famous people attending the conference. Think about the buzz it would generate!
