I am taking amoxicillin to deal with an infection caused by one of my wisdom teeth. Are there any supplements I should avoid while using amoxicillin?

On a side note, on thursday I will be having all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. Any tips to deal with the pain and so forth?

That sucks. I had a tooth infection for around 6 months! Treated 3 times with antibiotics, root canal and all still failed as there was a lingering infection present. Tooth got pulled because it kept causing systemic effects like increase temperature and general aches and pains.

Amoxicillin is quite a safe antibitoic and I still took my multivitamin everyday. Never experienced any side effects. Taking probiotics a few hours after each dose of amox is helpful though.

Never had wisdom teeth out, but got a molar pulled the other week and it was quite painless both during and after. A minor throbbing pain that would go away within a day while taking a normal painkiller.

One thing though, make sure you don't mess around with the wound after the tooh is pulled because you want the blood clot to stay there. Otherwise you will then be in for some serious pain (dry socket). No activities for at least 48 hours and use salt water after 24 hours. There isn't much you can really do but just wait

Avoid any strong blood thinners before they get pulled.

It seems that garlic, ginseng, and ginkgo may work as anti-coagulants, so I wont take any of those beforehand.

I got an infected gum after my wisdom teeth were surgically removed (all 4 were impacted, and once was sideways - that one was chiseled out in 4 pieces), and it was one of the two most painful things I have ever experienced (the other being a kidney stone). I believe it was caused by eating dry, crunchy food too soon after the surgery. If you can do it, stay on a liquid-only diet for 48 hours afterwards.

They gave me Percocet for the pain, but except when the infected gum happened, I didn't really need it.

I also would up with a dry socket, but it was not painful at all - they packed it with something that looked like a shoelace that was coated with painkiller and antibiotic.

stop any vitamin E, fishoil, or other blood thinners 2-3 days before your OP... send scottL a PM, he will be able to give you a more complete list.

read the booklet that comes with the drugs, it will usually tell you about any vitamin/supplement interactions.

i had severely impacted wisdom teeth, and had to have surgery to remove them because one grew into the jaw bone...and it was not painful, post-op...

so im sure you have nothing to worry about

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out when I was 16. A friend of mine who was a nurse for an oral surgeon said I should get some food in my stomach after the operation to avoid stomach upset. I went directly from the the oral surgeon's office to In-n-Out and had a burger. The next day I went riding on my motocross bike. I looked like a chipmunk because my face was so swollen, but I never had any problems. I don't remember any significant pain, but it was a while ago. Other people have horrible experiences. I think it might be easier if you're younger. The infection is a confounding factor though. You'll probably want to keep taking antibiotics for a while after the extractions.

The teeth are out. There was very little pain during the operation. My whole jaw is numb right now though, and that isn't too pleasant, but it is better than pain.

On the plus side, my LEF shipment arrived and I can start taking all of that.
