Just got my first batch. Surprised to see the words "pharmaceutical grade trans-resveratrol" on the front label. Also, no indication of any natural source for the t-res, i.e. Polygonum cuspidatum.

What do you make of this? Also, if one consumes the recommended 3 caps per day, one will be getting 60mg of piperine!

It appears to be a light brown powder in an white opaque capsule. If one looks closely, one can see the small beadlets they say the t-res is in, but here aren't many of them.


Does AOR have an excellent reputation?

Yeah, AOR's rep is very good. Probably among the highest of supplement providers that I know of.

Thats a lot of piperine. Normally supplement companies only add in about 5mg or so to enhance absorption. 60 mg is huge, seems to me that it would open the flood gates to all sorts of stuff.

I should add that the capsules are rather small, more like the size one finds in a 50mg t-res capsule from a 50% purity mix. I guess further evidence that this mixture is very very pure.

Still, I wonder how they justify all that piperine.

Piper Nigrum (black pepper) is listed as a source of piperine and the actual dose of piperine is not stated. I'm sure there is not 20mg of piperine per capsule as you are suggesting. Piperine is just a small component of piper nigrum.

The Piperine can be obtained from the oleoresin in the peppercorns. The piperine gives these peppercorns their hot, biting, and very pungent taste. Piperine makes up about 5-7% of the peppercorns, and although it is only found in nature with a 98% purity it is a very abundant chemical. Piperine can also be found in other vegetables and spices such as the famous hot jalapeno peppers. However, for chemical and medical use piperine is produced in the laboratory.

So about 3mg for the recommended does of 3 caps. I wonder how effectice the raw piper nigrum is as compared to purified piperine, i.e. Bioperine. Well, in any case, I'm not too worried now.
