I thought it would be interesting for folks to post information about potential positive effects of herbs, supplements, and health products that most people would want to know, but do not know.

I will start with one:

Cilantro: Perhaps it could counteract the lead that might be in the cacao that many of us eat?

From http://www.rawfoodin...eavymetals.html

"While he was testing for these toxic metals, Dr. Omura discovered that the leaves of the coriander plant (cilantro) could accelerate the excretion of mercury, lead, and aluminum from the body.

This came about accidentally when he noticed that mercury levels in urine increased after an individual consumed Vietnamese soup. The healthy soup contained coriander, or, as it is better known in this country, cilantro. And when cilantro was used concurrently with natural antiviral or antibiotic agents and/or omega-3 fatty acids, the infections could be eliminated for good."

I realize that reference I provided is not the most scientific and I could not find a whole bunch of scientific studies backing this up. So far all I know, this may be bogus.

is it really worth buying things that remove these heavy metals for every day/casual use or does it only really apply to clinical situations?

I wouldn't take the stuff every day if that were its only function, even so for those of us poisioned with mercury fillings it might not be a bad idea....

I think it was wise to make this known... I had forgotten reading about such benefits of cilantro, as I had read this effect a few years back. So thanks!
I think there is tremedous potential benefit to many people for this purpose, including the many here who unknowingly and innocently take in damaging heavy metals via supplementation and food stuffs such as cocao.
I also have a nice few mercury fillings that I question. I do know NAC and R-lipoic acid are supposedly beneficial also.

I have read that ALA will move heavy metals around in your body. There are different phases of detoxification that your liver goes through. If you don't take the right nutrients or nutrients in the right order or something you can basically take heavy metals out of storage and end up putting them into your bloodsteam and they might possibly get to your brain I think.
