Anyone tried the new Google Street view? It is available in only some cities right now, but it is pretty spectacular.

You can see lots of cool stuff, like the Golden Gate Bridge, and rotate, pan, zoom, etc. (more zoom in some places than others) I can't wait till this is available more places.

Here is a list of interesting things on Google Street View that some guy has started collecting:

(I like the one of Mr. T's van, haha)

By the way, you drag the little yellow guy around on the street to make him see different things.

Going around NY City, I found The Late Show with David Letterman studio, and also The Museum of Modern Art.

Neat! [thumb]

MicroSoft's photosynth is going to completely blow google street view away. I'm getting so incredibly excited about the future with all of these cool products (imagine the combination of Photosynth or Google Street View with Surface).

That photosynth does look cool, but 1) it will be awhile till all the data is compiled, and 2) you won't be able to go anywhere, just where people have taken photos and specifically arranged them with the program (most likely iconic places where people go a lot).

You can go look at your house if you want in Street View (well you can if it is in one of the areas that they have data for) and it is a lot more different types of area covered.
(plus the fact it is Google, and integrated into their popular mapping service, so lots of people will see it and use it)

Nonetheless, lots of cool stuff coming out having to do with imaging right now! Makes me excited for what is to come.

There goes my naked yoga.

I'm mixed between "This is so awesome" and "I better accelerate my Underground Tunnel plan".

Lol, good point. I saw a link on Digg pointing out the worst possible time to come out of a strip club on the Google Street View. Haha, I hope his wife and/or girlfriend doesn't mind.

Looks like Google is going to be sending out a fleet of camera cars to invade America and photo everything:

How can you not love Google, easily one of the top 5 entities so far in the 21st Century when you consider the sheer innovation they've done (YouTube/Gmail/Search Engine/Analytics/Groups/News/Video Features).

I think Google has brought the best out of mega-corporations like Microsoft, although Microsoft I'm sure hates Google for the fact they've made a killing for nothing (most of Google's services are free and easy to use).

I hadn't checked it in awhile, but it appears they added a few cities to it:
http://maps.google.c...=4&om=1&layer=c

They have Street View available for 9 cities now:
San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Denver, Houston, Orlando, Miami, and New York.

I wish they would add it for Atlanta so I could look around where I live at. I am sure they will eventually.

I don't think Google should get credit for the companies they aquired (youtube), but yeah, i agree. they have done some awesome stuff, and in general I think they are one of, if not the, best company around today.

Yeah, that is the neat part about it. They have a special camera that goes on the roof of the vehicles which takes a full picture all the way around every few feet. I can't imagine how much hard drive space one of those things takes up per block or mile or whatever. Being Google, I suppose that probably isn't a concern though. They probably just have a RAID array of a bunch of hard drives in the back of the van or something continually storing images.

Ooh, that one is cool. It would be neat if they would expand it as its pretty limited area right now, but it seems pretty high resolution.
