Hey,

Earlier people reported (anecdotally of course) endurance gains with resveratrol. Anyone notice weight loss (i.e., improved body composition) with resveratrol supplementation?

Sirtris pharma note on their website that "[t]he mice on resveratrol lost weight due to decreased fat, and this was attributed to an increase in the number and function of mitochondria. The resveratrol-treated mice also exhibited improved insulin sensitivity and an increased metabolic rate."

Thanks,
efosse

Lost about four kilograms, over eight months.

Body fat is now 7% according to Tanita in athlete mode (resting HR around 45, have worked out and run or bicycled daily for around 25 years.) I beleive my actual body fat is closer to 11%, but when I asked my doctor for an accurate method to determine body fat, he suggested destructive autopsy, and I declined.

PS started at 5 mg/kg, worked up to 1 gm/day, when weight loss started to show, now at 2+ g/day.

(modified post to add dosage)

No weight loss to speak of although I was already a good weight to begin with when I started supplementation. I did notice a strong appetite suppression when I first started but that seems to have faded.
My body comp, however, does seem to have improved, eg, lower body fat %, both from my anecdotal looking in the mirror and my Tanita scale which (semi-accurately) is supposed to measure bodyfat %. (Lots of discussion on these scales and their accuracy in other groups, I consider them a moving average....)

My body fat went from the mid to high teens to about 13.7%. I went from 150 to 144 pounds (I'm 5'8").

Thanks everyone! A question, though: what dosages were you guys taking? Clearly everyone is different, but I wonder if you have to take a lot (e.g., 1000+) daily to achieve weight loss and body composition changes...

I was taking 5 mg/kg when I noticed the weight loss, but now I'm at 1 g/day, which for me is 15.3 mg/kg.

Twenty pounds over one year. 208 to 188. Like Stephen I noticed weight loss at 5 mg/kg. I'm taking about a gram and a half per day now.

I feel obliged to address the balance (ouch!) and say that I have gained c6 lbs since being on rez. however, as with all these anecdotes you have to look at the whole picture ie

1) I'm just back the gym
2) I'm eating more protein because of the physcological shift towards "feeding my workouts" making gains etc.. Thus eating more and...
3) I'm taking creatine therefore absorbing more simple carbs and (hopefully) plumping up my muscle with more water than usual.

my point?

Most people when they embark on a new supplement, like a thesis or study, do so with the intention of working towards a conscious or semi sub-conscious goal.

People will hit this thread because they are interested in Losing weight (yes, now I'm over-simplifying intelligent people) and/or trying rez because this is one of it's benefits (why didn't you go into the SENS thread for example...?).

So, I have taken Rez, 300-400mg per day for the last 6 months, I have gained considerable weight, sometimes I have felt stimulated... or was that the rhodiola....or Alcar...or modafinil.. If you are going to ramp up to 1000mg per day you are probably doing so around meals and it WILL effect the way you select those meals and the components thereof, higher protein? I wonder if it helps with assimilation of Branch Chained Amino Acids..? We are all here because we are looking for something

We're a long way down on the bottom of the Rez Knowledge curve and this forum is incredibly willing to accept any indications of merit without any real human proof. But I suspect that many of us will look back on this thread in 2+ years time and shake our heads... Maybe at you..maybe at me.

Rant over, no significant point made, just food for thought.

I'm off to france tomorrow where I fully intend to assimilate rez in its natural form with all its concurrent absorption factors and potentiators - sorry I mean I'm going drink a lot of red wine. Vive la Paradox! :)

peace etc as Adam would say.

I didn't record any weight loss at 100mg/day for 8 weeks, but after going to 600mg/day I've dropped 7 lbs in the last 4 weeks. Same exercise regime the entire time. I would guess its a combination of increased insulin sensitivity and (for me) a significant thermogenic effect. Since increasing the dosage I've been throwing off heat. My BF% is around 24 so this is an excellent trend.

Wow, that's impressive blackpath -- have you changed anything else in terms of supplements?

I should say I haven't started resveratrol yet, but I'm going to start in September. I will have a few weeks before and I'll take relevant blood tests. I'm planning on just starting out with resveratrol just to see if that alone (plus my usual exercise regimen and diet) does anything.

Can't say I've noticed weight loss, but I've only been on resv at 600mg/day for 6 weeks or so. Before that, I did try a transdermal product (Dermacrine Sustain), but it was only 100mg per dose (I'm assuming absorption be higher with a transdermal?). I don't seem to notice too much energy or appetite suppression either. I do feel a sense of well being, similar to how I felt when I started taking higher doses of fish oil. Nothing too blissful, but it's there, and placebo or not, I'll take it! Oh - and after reading the reports of darker hair growth, I checked my own and noticed much fewer stray gray hairs. I keep my hair pretty short - I've had two cuts in 6 weeks. My wife confirmed the lack of grays and was very surprised.

No. I'm careful about introducing only one change at a time--I have not changed my regimen other than adding RES since January.

I am pretty sure I have started shaving less frequently since I started Resv, I will just throw that out there. Don't know if anyone else has experienced that.

Werid, lucid. Do you think resveratrol would help with hair loss? This is why ask:
1. Slower beard growth (reported by you)
2. Gray hairs disappearing (reported several times)
So it appears resveratrol IS activating genes responsible for aging processes at least in terms of hair (assuming beard growth is directly proportional to age).

Perhaps, since I'm 22 its setting my hair growth clock back a couple years (when the ole beard wasnt growing as fast).
Again though, thats just what I have felt I noticed, it could certainly be many other things.
