Just post whatever cool robots that are being worked on at the moment. I think the robot is supposed to say a bit more than what it does says in the video, it's a little confused? Check out the robot face at 1 min lol.

I thought it was quite funny anyway.

Is this your Einstein HUBO shown here:

I have also read recently that Spielberg has invested in some new robot characters that are real robots but I haven't found the link yet.

Urban Challenge bots!

Stanford's Junior
Virginia Tech's VictorTango
Carnegie Mellon's Tartan
MIT's Talos

There were 35(6?) teams in the semi-finals.

A lot of the robots that try to do human expressions really don't seem worthwhile to me. The really interesting and challenging problems of human interaction can be done more easily without a robot, and a face tends to fool people into thinking there's far more to the robot than there actually is.

However, there's been a ton of great work done on locomotion, particularly with Honda's ASIMO:

37 semifinalists, of which 20 will compete in the final challenge. This is one of my big interests:

Hold on ... I know ASIMO can walk, but can it navigate by itself while also collecting data?

Watching Asimo run is incredible. Still not controlled by an autonomous AI though. The hybrid approach, with an organic brain in the control loop, will still take some time to eliminate.

Yes, I know this has been posted like 3 times before (once by me) but this thread is screaming out for it:

Unfortunately the full version (with the binary solo and all that) was taken down. You can watch the live version they do in their show with the whole song here:

The movement is so lifelike that its creepy. I recommend everyone to at least jump forward to the two-minute mark and watch BigDog hopping and jumping. Incredible.

Here's a jumping robot from Tokyo University:

More "WOW FACTOR" from robots in Japan.

At Convergence 08, Paul Saffo said robotics would be one of the more significant revolutions coming in the next 5 to 10 years. Looking at all the physical capabilities and human mimicry, I can't help but think he is right.

For some reason (because I'm twisted...) this reminded me of a line from King of the Hill:

PEGGY: But I can't take a fourteen-year break! They'll have sex robots by then, and Hank won't need me!

I think the Japanese "supermodel" robot might need about another 14 years of R&D... How long until she can walk in high heels?
