Canadian Blood Services has opened a new website called onematch.ca, where they focus exclusively on people wanting to make stem cell and bone marrow donations. It used to be done directly through CBS, but now they're trying to make it a more international body with it's efforts based entirely on stem cell donation domestically as well as internationally.

"OneMatch maintains a growing database of more than 220,000 individuals who have agreed to donate stem cells to any patient in need anywhere in the world."

They explain the screening process, types of donations, etc. I figure with so many of us as healthy as we are, it's not a bad idea to donate. Tonight I'm signing up, and will be making note of any progress in this thread.

Stem cell update...I got a call yesterday from a woman at onematch.ca, we briefly went over my medical history, and she emailed me the requisition form necessary for the preliminary bloodwork. So, went to a blood lab today to give a sample of my plasma for introduction into the stem cell registry. In two weeks they'll let me know that they've fully processed the sample and that I'm in the database for donation. Hooray!

You do realize that even with anesthesia aspiration of a bone marrow donation is perhaps the most painful medical procedure known to man? The stem cell donation should be much less traumatic I would guess though.

Not to worry. There's DrUgZ for that! :thumb: A shot of propofol, and you'll just wake up 45 minutes later. Maybe you'll say "so, like, when does this thing start?"

Yes, getting doped up will be paramount for when this happens. I'd have to be pretty high to say "like" in such a Beverly Hills fashion however ;) Maybe there is a marrow = intelligence ratio I'm not acknowledging...

Seriously though, they say to expect some major soreness for a few days afterwards.

Decided on a snide 90210 remark from the crass Canuck
