Since I have not studied pharmacology or neurology, bare with me!

AOR says: Bacopa Enlighten is Bacopa monniera Linn, a herb used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for support of cognitive function. Recent science supports this role along with powerful neuroprotective effects through the upregulation of the brains own antioxidant defense enzymes.

Will the combination of antioxidants and Bacopa have a synergistic effect? I am interested in taking Bacopa for about two months along with antioxidant rich sources such as blueberries, pomegranate, and cocoa.

I ask this question because I understand that antioxidants are highly beneficial to brain health, but I do not want to mislead myself in thinking that taking high amounts of antioxidants with Bacopa will work synergistically if effects are seen.

I would appreciate any criticism. If there is reason to believe that there is validity to this idea, I just might purchase antioxidants in pill form for higher doses.

You definitely would be ok to add all the blueberries, pomegranate, and cocoa you desire. They are all good for you.

I already eat dark chocolate (77% cocoa, I believe), blueberries, and pom regularly, but I guess I should be clearer and say this: I am interested in testing this idea by purchasing antioxidants supplement, but only if there is strong evidence for the two working together. Otherwise, I'll spend my money on something else.

Taking bacopa and anti-oxidants would be better IMO than taking either alone. Do you understand? Should I find a clearer way to say it to you?

Why can't we understand each other! Haha! I understand you, but I want to know if antioxidants will work with Bacopa or enhance Bacopa's effects, rather than the two independently working. Does this make more sense? I understand that taking antioxidants will help without a doubt, but I want to know if they will work together to benefit rather than working independently. I do understand that if I supplement antioxidants, it will likely affect Bacopa, but I want to know to what extent, as if the "regulation of the brain's antioxidant enzymes" will be enhanced DIRECTLY by antioxidant supplementation.

Also, luv2increase, I do admit could just have a poor understanding of drug interaction :)

For those that care to read, who care about this idea, since this post has been a disaster for me thus far --

The only further way I can explain this idea conceptually is like this:
Let's say Bacopa has an effect of "+5"
Let's say an antioxidant supplement pill has an effect of "+3"

My question is, taken together, will there be an effect greater than "+8"? If anyone has any insight past "probably" or "sounds like a good idea," I would like that.

Too many variables. We don't know all the information. There aren't any studies. The logical guess would be that it would work better together. Therefore, you have your answer. That is 'no one knows for sure, but it seems feasible'.
