After reading through all the posts in this forum, I found out the importance of suncreen in a good skin care regimen. However, this has caused me to ponder which
sunscreen is truly the best sunscreen to prevent photoaging. The two big sunscreens that I have been debating against is the La Roche-Posay ANTHELIOS 60 XL CREAM(Mexoryl XL, Mexoryl SX) and Neutrogena's new Helioplex Sheer sunscreen formula. Now according to this website, http://www.savvyskin...een-ingredients, only zinc oxide and mexoryl
have the broadest range of UVA coverage. The wavelengths are drawn from the website and listed below.

Zinc Oxide 290-380
Mexoryl 290-400
Avobenzene 340-375
Titanium Dioxide 290-340
Octinoxate and Octisalate 320-240
Oxybenzone 320-240

Avobenzene and Oxybenzone(found in the helioplex Neutrogena formula) does not protect against the UV wavelenght of 320-340. On the other hand, a research study seems to indicate that Neutrogena's Helioplex formula provide a better PFA number/better UVA protection than Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl SL combined.

Quote: "Additionally, Neutrogena has released a multitude of sunscreens with Helioplex, a stabilized, patented combination of oxybenzone and avobenzone that has been demonstrated in clinical tests to provide longer-lasting UVA protection than most other sunscreens. In comparing mexoryl and Helioplex, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70 has been reported to have a PFA value of 23.3 or 26.5, interestingly higher than the reported PFA value of 10 for Mexoryl SX and XL in combination. Therefore, based on the current reported PFA data, it seems that Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70 is even more effective than Mexoryl, providing the best UVA protection on the U.S. market." Taken from http://futurederm.wo...com/2007/10/01/.

Now considering the two pieces of information, which do you think will provide better UV protection: neutrogena helioplex or La roche Posay?

That future dermatologist really needs to read better. The article she is reffering to only implies the synergism between Mexoryl SX and XL. As shown in this picture. Attached File  14.jpg   112KB   102 downloads
L'Oréal does not only use those 2, but also uses other filters. That Anthelios XL 60 cream (Canadian formula) also has avobenzone, octocrylene and titanium dioxide for complete coverage. Can't find the PPD of this sunscreen, but I believe it can't be bad. The US LRP moisturizer has a PPD of 15 and many of the European LRP SPF 50+ sunscreens have a PPD of around 30.

As for Neutrogena's Helioplex sunscreens, I think they are cr*p compared the European RoC Minesol line also owned by J&J. Thank the FDA for that. Also I don't know why I would expose myself to oxybenzone, a common photoallergen that is no longer used by all major European sunscreen brands. I would go for the LRP cream or something similar.

Did Eva Victoria ever get to posting her opinion of helioplex?

Yeap, she definitely spoke about it. Don't think she was too enthusiastic about it though.
