Why are you so pesimistic, such a future would be very nice!
I have issues with a lot of futures that people long for, also. I become infuriated at the helplessness of most people today. I can't imagine how bad it will be with upcoming technology. I also find future utopias incredibly boring. I need competition and conflict in my life to keep things interesting. A world where our every need can be provided without difficulty sounds a lot like prison to me.
I think shepard answered that question very well.
I would like to add the following though to what you have said A941.....
Just because I wouldn't want to live in the future as shown in 2057 - the series does not mean that I am pessimistic. That's just you forcing your view of what you would like the future to be like onto me. In your opinion 2057 would be a good future to live in and I don't so therefore I am pessimistic. Meh! Whatever
I think that I am a realist. I am optimistic that society can still break free from it's lazy, desiring, easy way out mindset. Let's have a look at a few things that are caused by that mindset:
1. Obesity - laziness
2. Debt - desiring and idealistic. "Things would be so much better if........"
3. Religion = War - laziness and the easy way out. Not enough time looking in at who we are. Competing. Desiring. Brainwashed
4. and so on......
the list is endless in my opinion.
Let's flip the equation over. Instead of the world becoming a better place how about we become better people instead. We make the effort to become better people to better the world instead of waiting around for something better to come along.
<condescending tone> But that would be too hard? </condescending tone>
