Hi guys!

Well I've been reading around on the internet and discovered that nootrophics exist. I've always heard of substances that help brain functioning, so I wasn't hesitant to believe that they really exist.

However, I've read a few topics where people take a mix of things, such as Piracetam and Centrophenoxine. I was wondering what kinds of substances should be used in conjunction with the two aforementioned for the best effect. I've heard of Choline as well, but I'm not sure what that does exactly as I am new to nootrophics.

In addition, I've read a few topics denouncing sites, such as Unique Nutrition. Is it really safe to buy from Unique Nutrition? I want to check before I actually purchase anything from that site. I'm scared that I may be poisoned to death or be a victim of fraud (example: sugar pills).

I'm planning to use the nootrophics while I study. I have a major test coming up (that takes around six hours to complete). The material that I will be tested on is pretty dense, consisting of almost two-thousand pages. I'm hoping to improve my performance while studying and while taking tests. In addition, I'm hoping that it'll help me get rid of anxiety while taking tests and while givings speeches and interviews.

Incase a description is needed:
-I'm eighteen years old.
-I eat a lot of food.
-I weigh around ~150 pounds.
-I have a huge caffeine intake (energy drinks and caffeine pills from time to time).
-When I get sick, I tend to eat pills (such as Tylenol or Advil).
-I use GNC's Mega Men Vitamin Supplement.
-I also use GNC's Memorall (contains Ginkgo Biloba and Huperzine A).
-The area that my school is located at is a bit cold.
-I rarely get a lot of sleep (deep sleep) because of my heavy work load.
-I have no serious health condition; infact, I haven't been to a doctor in ages.

Thanks a lot in advance!

1. You eat a lot of food. Do you eat well?
2. A huge intake of caffeine is unhealthy and will likely adversely interfere with any nootropics you might take.
3. Huperzine A shouldn't be taken by young people.
4. You need to have a good sleep schedule to work with full brain power. You can't replace sleep or make it up in any way but sleeping.
5. Not going to the doctor doesn't mean that everything is all well and good. You should get a regular physical from a doctor at least once a year.
6. Are you exercising?

Exercising, eating well, and getting good sleep will effect you more profoundly than any nootropic, and you need to have your brain in the best condition if you want good results from nootropics.

Also, please start getting used to searching the forums for your questions. These questions has been asked dozens of times and has been answered dozens of times. Most of the answers you want have been answered already. I don't mean to be cold, but there is a lot of information you can find using the search function.

I apologize for not using the search function before asking questions. However, I had the idea that different advice may be given to different people.

Anyways, I can't do much about the sleep problem. I wake up at 5:30 AM on the weekdays and return home at around ~11:00 PM (However, I do sleep well on the weekends :)) If I have some homework to do, then I must finish it before I go to bed. Yes, I do go to the gym on weekdays (if I am free). I'm not sure if I am eating well, but I do eat a lot of fish, rice and vegetables (kimchi, if the specifics make any difference).

I feel as if I've forgotten to mention this, but the reason I'm hoping to try nootrophics is because of the fact that I can't seem to focus on the material that I have to study anymore. I've read it multiple times, so I am easily bored by the material. As a result, I easily get distracted by other things.

There are minimal if any at all evidance that *insert randomly chosen nootropic* have any benefits at all to healthy young people. I'm sorry, this is not the answer you wanted to hear but it's better you hear the truth and save yourself some money. Modafinil and ritalin DO enhance cognition but I do not recommend them to a healthy person.

You are living an unhealthy lifestyle. Everyone needs adequate sleep for concentration and health. It's very likely that you are losing concentration because your lack of sleep in catching up with you. End of story.

It truly must suck coming to a board like this, reading about all these great nootropics, getting all excited about the possibility of starting a new regime, starting your own thread just to introduce yourself and maybe ask some questions, and then.. WHACK! Nothing more than stone cold, emotionless, distant responses..

Still, our more experienced counterparts know much more than us, and it certainly does seem that you need to change the "normal" parts of your lifestyle before trying to enhance your being with supplements. If I were you I'd be trying to get a bit more sleep, get a consitant broad reaching diet going, and obviously getting into the habit of regular exercise, maybe even some strength training. I'm informed that the earlier you start, the better!

I just started a little regime a few weeks ago, and one of the biggest changes to my lifestyle has been getting to sleep earlier (11 or 12) and waking up at 7AM as opposed to 9 or 10! Yeah, I work from home.. I'll tell you now that the days are brighter, longer, and I have much more energy! Getting sleep right is important.

Anyway, I don't know how much help this is considering I haven't spoken at all about nootropics, but hopefully it's at least a little positive and puts you on a good track :-)

Welcolm Sherwin!
Good luck on the test coming up.
Regarding supplement companies, I feel that I have received excellent products and fast delivery from Relentless Improvement (sponsor of this thread), Smart Nutrients http://smart-drugs.com/olymprod.html and IAS
http://www.antiaging-systems.com/

Piracetam uses up choline (ACh is the thought neurotransmitter). Choline supplementation replaces choline and keeps headaches away.
Some reading on CDP-Choline:
http://www.delano.co...GPC-Sharpe.html
http://aor.ca/int/ma...rain_health.pdf

Some other good articles:
http://www.imminst.o...o...st&p=215441

You mentioned reducing anxiety for interviews, etc..
Piracetam has some anxiolytic properties.
Then there is Green Tea (theanine), Chamomille, Valerian.
Or beta blockers like Propranolol (Inderal) - a prescription med (not a nootropic) that classical musicans use to steady nerves.
