I posted this in the thread about my sister, but got no answer so I'm given it it's own topic. What do you think is the best SJW supplement out there?

I just started using Nature's Way: Perika. I know this tests well. At this point (1 week) I'm pretty sure I'm noticing some effect, and it seems positive. I may need to increase dosage frequency...

You could also go with Kira (kira and perika are available at iHerb) or HBC, which both test well.

- I don't think St. John's Wort imparts a positive effect on everyone...open to experiment.

youve basically got 2 choices as far as reliable st johns wort extracts that have been stabilized and standardized for hyperforin (not just hypericin) content. all successful clinical trials have used these 2 extracts:

natures way perika, which is 'ws5572' extract made by willmar schwabe a german phytopharmaceutical company(same company that makes ginkgold). the majority of successful clinical trials have been done using this extract.

the second option is 'stjohnselect' extract made by indena, and italian phytopharma company... kira, hbc protocals & vitamin shoppe house brand all use this extract.

i would try perika. ive been using perika for almost a year now and i find the results are better and more consistent than any other brand (and ive tried them all)

I switched to Perika a week ago and haven't been happy with it. Before I was taking a brand called Sundown for a month, which was on sale at the grocery store. I'm sure Perika is of higher quality and better standards...but the Sundown was markedly better for me. I'll give Perika a few more days, before I switch back. I might also try Kira.

The interesting thing is Perika is the only one that lists hyperforin content - although I've seen that Kira may also be standardized for that and just not say it. I've heard the latest research indicates hyperforin is the most active component of SJW. For me, maybe hypericin is more important. I've also seen some indications that hyperforin might be more active on dopamine. Which would make sense, since I've not had good experiences with substances that increase dopamine.

St. John's makes me feel very contented. As in I can just sit in a chair for hours just thinking how fantastic everything is and sitting in a chair doing nothing is completely fine by me. Perhaps that's how old men feel.

I get nothing done though and I have no desire to do anything. Sometimes negative feelings can help be an impetus for change.

Sundown is an interesting name for an antidepressant type herb.

The Eclectic Institute brand St. John's Wort is one of the best extracts, with 0.5-0.4% Hypericins, 2-4% Hyperforins.

New Chapter's SC27 extract works tremendously well for myself. It is a low hypericin high hyperforin extract and seems to reduce substantially the photosensitivity I get from standard extracts with high hypericin. If you are suffering from photosensitivity it may be worth a try.
