Is there any accurate way the average person can test for nutritional deficiencies? I believe I might have b6 and zinc deficiencies but I'd really like some accurate way of knowing. I've heard of hair mineral analysis but some say it's bogus?

I think they have a blood test for B6. I know they do for B12 and Folic acid.
Minerals can be tested by blood too, but some of the tests aren't always accurate. You could try a zinc oral test, but I don't know how good they are.
By the way, why do you think you are deficient in B6? I thought I read that such a deficiency is pretty rare.

The poster raises a good question. How does one know what one needs? I bet more people would donate blood if the Red Cross gave a free blood diagnosis on the results.

You can get a test for pyrroles in your urine. This would indicate that you have pyroluria which means you lose zinc and vitamin b6. Pyroluria is a b6 and zinc deficiency - or dependency really.
A blood test can tell if you are low in b6. This may not be that accurate. A urine test for metabolites would be more accurate. Usually if you test for XA (xanuthuric acid ?sp?) or some other acid/metabolite then you have a b6 deficiency.
Zinc status is sold in health food stores and tells you your zinc levels.
