Every so often I have a sinus infection that seems to migrate down into my bronchial tubes, especially if I don't get the sleep I need.

Any recommendations for supplements to speed the recovery process? I'd rather avoid going on antibiotics.

At the moment, I'm taking:

* 5 g vitamin C (Mg ascorbate) at bedtime
* getting more sleep, humidifier on, and taking steamy showers
* 3 capsules epicore in the morning
* full dose of ortho-core for it's NAC, since some studies show it helps break up mucus
* lots of green tea during the day

I don't smoke, so I won't start. :p Anything else I could be doing?

Stephen

Seems good so far. You'll want to avoid allergens and particulates (all the time, really, not just when you have an acute illness). This will improve the health of your mucous membranes and should thus improve barrier function. To that end, a HEPA filter, dehumidifier during humid months, and general cleanliness are good.

Nasal washes can be good; the things that you shoot into one nostril and it comes out the other one. It's not so much gross as just weird. Be careful about blowing your nose when you're sick. You want to avoid pushing infectious gunk up into your sinuses. Stay on top of your handwashing. Guaifenesin can help to mobilize mucous. It's available OTC and is fairly benign. Try not to be religious about antibiotic avoidance. If you have a bacterial infection it might be in your best interest to treat it. Obviously it depends on the strain, the location of the infection, and the peculiarities of your immune response, but there can be some pretty severe downsides to a bacterial infection. For most of man's history on earth they were the most common cause of death.
