Senator Mike Gravel, left the Democratic party and has now declared his status as a Libertarian candidate for President!

He's got my vote :)

Just be sure to be strategic. Depending on the political situation in your state, a vote for Gravel might be a vote for the candidate you least want.

We have a libertarian party?

Yep, have had one for awhile. I voted for Badnarik on their ticket last time around.

It has not been run very well and has had lots of infighting in the past, though. Unfortunately, the way the system is set up in the US to favor a 2 party system works against small parties gaining power.

We have a libertarian party?

Yes, there is a Libertarian party. It remains dormant most of the
time. Ones in a while somebody wakes it up from it's slumber to make
it to yutube.
Libertarians believe in very little government, none at all if
possible. As such, they are the proud descendants of a venerable tradition. In
the old days proponents of no government used to be called anarchists.
Methods have changed. Anarchists tried to get rid of government by
blowing it up. Nowadays, libertarians try to get rid of government by
getting elected and destroying it from within. In the meantime they
are getting paid by the government.
Libertarians have a hard time convincing many people. In childhood,
people believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and a world without
government. Then most people grow up and realize that without
government there will be total anarchy, and get scared.
Libertarians are against intervention in the affairs of other
countries. They liked Ronald Reagan who proved his libertarian
tendencies in Nicaragua, Grenada and a few other places and things.
Mike Gravel will be the presidential candidate for the Libertarian
party. Among his latest credentials:
In one of his real estate ventures he couldn't pay his creditors. The government guaranteed he
didn't have to pay in full by declaring bankruptcy.
Years later, he couldn't pay his personal bills. The government
guaranteed he didn't have to pay in full by declaring personal
bankruptcy.
All of that after many years of being paid from taxpayers money
through the government as state legislator and US senator. So we see
that this guy Gravel has an impeccable libertarian pedigree.

Inawe. You have got it totally wrong. Libertarians are not anarchists. Ronald Reagan was not a libertarian. Where the heck do you find this stuff? Just make it up?

For example, libertarians are not against socialist/collective programs, so long as they are voluntary.

I have to agree with Mind, I have no idea where you're getting your facts from inawe. O_o

In the past I didn't care much for the Libertarian Party, but watching the Democratic debates, Mike Gravel is the most logical candidate to vote for. He's like the liberal version of Ron Paul.

Could you imagine ... Mike Gravel as president with Ron Paul as vice president?

Libertarians keep talking against government. I take them to their
word. I assume they would like to have very small government or none
at all. In the past, Anarchists wanted to get rid of government. So
there is some analogy, isn't it? But I did point out that their methods
are different.
I made up the Ronald Reagan thing. So did the Libertarian party of
California:

Libertarian Party lauds Reagan
California branch calls Gipper 'a great champion of individual liberty'

WorldNetDaily.com
The Libertarian Party of California, President Reagan's home state, has
called him "a great champion of individual liberty, personal
responsibility and, arguably, the most libertarian-leaning president
in modern history." A statement from the party applauds Reagan, who
died Saturday, for his attempts to control the size and power of the
federal government, quoting from his first inaugural address: "In this
present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem."

I really hate it when I make up things and they turn out to be true.
Other things I made up and happen to be true are the facts about
Gravel. Just check out his biography.

Gravel should have joined the Green Party. I don't know what he was thinking.

Let's put it this way ... if Hillary wins the Democratic nomination, my vote is definitely going to Gravel.

As for Obama, I'm still skeptical about him ... though I have to admit it would be nice to have a young African-American president.

Either way, I wouldn't like to have another Republican president. And it doesn't matter if John McCain is able to answer that call at 3 AM, because he's already going to be up trying to pee. :)

OK, I did in fact LOL. I'm just glad I wasn't drinking anything at the time.
