I have an aging family member who is sufferring from this and has lost most of her vision as a result. Since traditional medical treatment has failed to halt the loss of her vision, does anyone have any thought on supplements that may slow it down at least?

Try getting a supplement containing meso-zeaxanthin. Topical N-acetyl-carnosine might help.

I think that the best way to use supplements is by finding a doctor who can work with the patient on this. My personal experience with supplementing has been that you have to have some tests done from time to time to see how your nutrient levels (blood tests) are to make adjustments. And adjustments may be needed because it is possible to create imbalances if you miss even one nutrient that is necessary. If you don't make the proper adjustments then you only create new problems or new symptoms.

This site says all stages of AMD can have a b6 deficiency. Besides luetin and zeaxanthin, a number of other things are also mentioned.

This site seems to have, I think, the most extensive list of nutrients for AMD though not all are indicated as playing a direct role in helping the condition.
