What do people find is the best time of day to take Theanine?

I like it in the middle of the day. Some people like it before bed, some people have trouble sleeping with it before bed. Some like it in the morning, I prefer my morning coffee. It just depends. The middle of the day keeps me from slapping people in lab.

It looks like taking l-theanine with your morning coffee can improve cognition and mood.

Yeah, I've checked out the full text from that study. Some areas improved, some suffered. At the time, I decided that I'd rather stick with just coffee.

short answer is take it when you need it.


I personally only use the stuff to get to sleep.

From personal experience I find the effects of L-theanine are best in the early afternoon; in the morning, tiredness is an issue, and in the evening, getting to sleep can be more difficult, so it is important that the doses are timed well. I've found though that L-theanine produces a kind of "rough landing" from stimulants, and doesn't work very well for periods of acute stress from stimulant use (even though it does antagonize the effects of caffeine).
