Hello,

I'd like to improve my mental state. I'd like to feel less stressed, more light hearted, more compasionate, more motivated more affectionate.

There is defiantely no shortage of women out there. The problem is just improving my mental state and unlearning what playboy and the internet has taught me about sex.

Are there any practical guides to Neuroplasticity. tips or advice that you could comment?

thank you

THC

I'm not talking about drugs here... hence why I didn't post in the noops forum.

I'm more talking about neurogensis and engaging parts of the brain that aren't responsible for stress and depression instead of those that are.

Of course there are books on the subject available on amzon.com

http://www.amazon.co...neuroplasticity

I'm think it's important that we know our own frame of mind and become light hearted and intelligent before trying to fix anything else. Trying to fix things while in negative states of mind tends to make things worse.

Lion's Mane mushroom, ashwagandha, huperzine A, acetyl L-Carnitine, and acetyl L-Carnitine arginate have all been shown to either provoke neural growth factor, or to stimulate the growth of axons and dendrites, as an internet search can show you. Most of these studies have been on cultured cells, however.

I'm not convinced increasing neural connections is always a good thing though. As a person matures, "excess" neural connections are cut, and this may be good--autism may result in individuals whose connections haven't been pared down.

I'm also not sure of the connection between stress reduction and increased neural plasticity. Maybe when stress is lower, neurons are not damaged as much? For stress reduction, I've had good results from kava (but don't take it regularly because of potential liver damage), ashwagandha, and L-Theanine.

nootrope, nootopics are not going to help caston achieve his goals.

Caston, my advice to you is to seek a lifestyle coach. I think that you're in a pretty good position because you understand diet, exercise and supplementation. Now all you need to do is to broaden your mindset

Hi Zoo,

Thanks for the reply. The advice of seeking a lifestyle coach is an interesting suggestion. How would I find and select a good lifestyle coach? :p

I've been thinking about just doing some Falun Gong for a while just to see how I like it.

nootrope: These things may be helpful but before I start taking them it would be best to ensure that I develop good patterns of neural development first. A little bit of neural autophagy may actually be in order to clean up ways of thinking that only hamper my progess. If these supplements do indeed encourage the growth and division of neurons, inhbit de-myelination and encourage re-myelination then it must be important to ensure that I form a positive neural network rather than build up and further thinking patterns related to stress, depression, emotional detachment, auto-eroticism. Instead forming networks that encourage creativity, relaxation, fun, social bonding and friendlyness.

What's the difference between those supplements and THC? Your body has natural cannabinoids... the same as those supplements in your body... THC has been shown to increase hippocampal growth which plays a strong role in memory.

The answer? Stop aging through CR, exercise, and use your mind all the time. Meditation and exercise cleared up my mind significantly in a rapid time.

Speak with local counselors and search online

I'm in complete understanding of your problem :p.

My personal recommendations is a bit of meditations to just try to relax and feel that bit of emotional detachment towards your current way of life: learn to observe i should say. Once you learn a sense of detached viewing (which is probably the most difficult/lengthy part), comes a time for reconstruction... learn to work with your emotions, they're quite simple, kind of like dealing with water. You essentially control the ripples by focusing on the emotion of choice.

When you can live within your head, you can learn to control the way you interpret that which you perceive. Learning compassion is rather simple as well, just take into account each person's life... their struggles, their pains, agonies... also when you learn to observe love and the way it modifies perception... you can learn to engineer those feelings constantly whenever necessary, association goes a long way. And being "light hearted" simply requires global perspective. After awhile, you can train these states

Anyways this takes time and a level of seclusion dependent on who you are, but given your preference to non-supplements, i'd say it's one of the best method :p. If some of it didn't come through properly feel free to reply. Also get some exercise, evidence proves it strengthens the parts of the brain that deal with emotional control.

That's my no bull answer... lol Best of luck.

Thank you. Good thoughts lead to good fortune. Bad thoughts lead to bad fortune ;)

I'm trying now to put things into perspective and move forward.

:p I was worried my advice would come off a bit too idealistic, plus i'm not sure if it works for many people, it just worked for me when i found it important... i think you're moving in the right direction though, you seem like you have the intelligence to pull it off too :~...

anyways, take a look at cognitive behavioral therapy if you're interested in a more proven method
