I think Matthias may have started a thread on printers that print littler versions as a path to nanotech singularity

3d printing with print size littler than nozzle; steerable droplet nucleus

two fluids mingle; one is highly diamagnetic the other paramagnetic
passing through a magnetic nozzle the diamagnetic fluid centers the droplet(o);
electrostatic fields like those used on some inkjet printers guide the droplet to any of twelve positions rather like the youtube loading circle animation or visualize the face of a rotary phone; the paramagnetic fluid evaporates; diamagnetic fluid is the printed particle; the actual size of the printed particle is such that it can print circular objects smaller than the nozzle; thus the nozzle can print smaller replicas of the nozzle to create printers with higher resolution; the smallest size particle is thus the size of a magnetic domain that is a few hundred atoms

as a nozzle this steers to twelve smaller areas

also an option is that after the (o) droplet reaches the surface optical light is used to custom evaporate the sides of the droplet pushing material towards the center

nice idea

(..manofsan presented it, but I was & am very fascinated by the whole idea of 3d printing too ^^ )

Yet another application that RepRap variants could theoretically engage in.
