Well, I hope she will grace us with her presence in the near future. Over the last couple of years she has been involved with IEET and WTA and all kinds of other things...so pretty busy.

Her Blog. I love the name "Existence is Wonderful".

Hi folks...I'm looking forward to Sunday's chat, though I figure I should clarify for the record that I resigned from WTA Directorship earlier this year, so it isn't accurate to describe me that way anymore. EDIT: I also no longer work with the IEET. I had a bit of an epiphany about time management earlier in 2008, and am really totally not comfortable with "administrative" positions of any kind, nor do I like being considered to "represent" multiple organizations (particularly when I'm not entirely sure what their goals are, or if they even really coincide with mine to begin with). But regardless of all that, I am still totally committed to longevity advocacy -- I am just trying to travel a bit more lightly as far as my affiliations go, and so far I've been much happier this way.

My major current affiliation (relevant to this board, at least) is as a volunteer with the Methuselah Foundation, and of course I blog frequently on longevity, neurology, science, social justice, and random stuff I think is cool at "Existence is Wonderful".

Anne had many interesting issues to expound upon, from genetic manipulation to personal labels to gender issues in science and technology. She also talked a bit about her blog and work with the Methuselah foundation.

Saved at the Ustream site as are all the videos. I have downloaded the videos and have converted them to AVI format, however, I am having some technical difficulties getting them to play in the video rotation at the Update Channel. Still working on that.

Also, the Ustream site has the option to have the interviews automatically uploaded to youtube, I have used this for the last couple of interviews, but I have yet to see the interviews show up on youtube. Will keep working on that.

OK, post-interview, all I have to say is...yikes, that was intense! Definitely an interesting experience. Fun in some respects, and I did manage to say a few things that I see as reflective of some of my major principles and interests, but also a bit "limiting" in that everything moved very quickly (to the point where I wasn't able to really review what I was saying in my head before I said it).

Anyway, though, here are some links to some blog entries I've written that might give some folks a better idea of where I'm coming from on certain issues (as well as my interests in general, and my approach to them):

Background:

- My main "About" page: http://www.existence...2/12/about.html

Longevity:

- A science-y post on "ageless animals" and longevity: http://www.existence...-longevity.html

- On the basic common sense of longevity medicine: http://www.existence...more-basic.html

- On why valuing the elderly among us is essential to the success of longevity medicine: http://www.existence...ty-terrain.html

- A report from a Future Salon meeting I attended that featured a debate between William Hurlburt and Aubrey de Grey: http://www.existence...symphonies.html

- No, centenarians should NOT feel guilty about still being alive!: http://www.existence...ctions-and.html

Brains, Perception, and Autism:

- On perception and seeing the world differently: http://www.existence...us-notices.html

- On intelligence and "g": http://www.existence...ions-and-g.html

- On autism and empathy: http://www.existence...motion-and.html

- On autism "awareness" and how hype can be harmful: http://www.existence...s-futility.html

On Resources, Health/Reproductive Choice, and Social Justice:

- On resource distribution and economics: http://www.existence...eeds-stuff.html

- More on resource distribution and economics: http://www.existence...-economics.html

- On procreative freedom/choice, disability, and avoiding oversimplification of these issues: http://www.existence...rocreative.html

- On the intersections between science and social justice: http://www.existence...d-autistic.html

Subcultural and Social Stuff:

- On media appearances and my discomfort with "transhumanism" as a label: http://www.existence...ng-forward.html

- Some thoughts on sensible longevity advocacy vs. "we're all going to be uploads" handwaving: http://www.existence...r-cheerful.html

- Some thoughts on labels and gender: http://www.existence...escriptive.html

Just For Fun:

- Fun with retro-futurism: http://www.existence...es-of-2008.html

- Fun with robots: http://www.existence...tural-icon.html

- Fun with Babylon 5 (mostly): http://www.existence...scinations.html

Okay, I figure that ought to do it for now -- hopefully those entries will help fill in the "gaps" in what I said in the interview, at least to some extent, and present some of my ideas in a more organized format.

Thanks again!

Sure. Though I don't think I'll be doing many audio interviews in the future -- it's way harder to articulate myself that way than it is for me to type, particularly when I'm being asked about such a wide range of topics. And as I explained to Mind, sometimes this kind of thing manifests in my "sounding fine" but realizing after the fact that I've ended up saying things that don't communicate my thoughts very accurately. When I'm on the spot, I tend to either lose words or babble -- I'm still trying to figure out what I was doing going on about libertarians and cryonics, but hey, it's just a day in the life. ;)

Thanks again!
