Hello, why the webmaster uses images for links and without ALT text?.

Are you asking because this would make surfing faster for you?

Because, we use image links mainly for aesthetic purposes.

Having appropriate alt tags on navigation links makes using the website possible for people with some disabilities (like blindness) with their software. Also for people on very slow connections, or via certain types of proxy. It's generally good practice.

Yes, images are slower plus some people do not even load them. They can not be managed using the browser settings like text (for color, contrast, size, etc.).

Plain text for links is better. It shows perfect in all browsers and screen resolutions, can be read by software for the blind, etc.

Besides, text links can be "decorated" using CSS (background color, font, 3D effect, mouse events, etc.) and will look like buttons if you want to. So, there are no aesthetic limitations with text.

The worst to use for links is javascript.

I am sorry to see there is No interest in improving this site usability even if it is to apply the minimal design standards, that is ALT text for images.

My problem with the website is a BUG. When I pass the mouse pointer over the buttons near the top of a forum page (you know, font, etc.) I get a "run time error, do you want to debug?" Argh!! I'm running IE 6.0.2600.0000 on Win '98

We've run into this before. Go to Internet Options under the Tools menu. Enter the "Advanced" tab and check "Disable Script Debugging"

You might have to close all browsers or even reboot but this should work.
