I felt like creating this new topic to carry on the discussions started in this topic.

Georgia had the third most troops in Afghanistan, after the US and UK--and were in the processes of joining NATO, they have powerful allies to call on--which gives this the potential to be a much larger war...

They had 4,000 troops in Iraq, but 2,000 already went back to georgia for the war there and the other 2,000 will also come back soon i think.

The US already "condemned" russia and said that russia was overreacting and stuff like that, but lets face it what will the US or any other possible georgian "ally" do? The US or any other sane country that is not going to be directly affected by this war is definitely not going into it, i mean, it's russia they'd go to war against, and no one wants that.

Also, russia has the vetoing power in the UN's security council so any proposal that would go against russia's will, will have no way of being approved.

It's clear that there are some hidden motives for russia to make this war; it wouldn't go for all this work just to free south ossetia from georgia.
