This area is on the verge of breaking out into the mainstream. The success of the IPhone, the amount of smart phones in business culture, and the push for open access bandwidth and development of good phone software by Google and others, may finally push mobile computing to a new level. Some think that we will prefer tech, that adds to human ability, to be outside the body vs cyborg type enhancements. This seems like a strong next wave of that. I want to know of applications, besides straight search, that are coming out, or that you are using, that affect how you live your daily life.

Here are some that will be available for Google's Android platform:

AndroidScan

Finds pricing and reviews for anything with a barcode. It automatically recognizes barcodes and searches dozens of online stores, brick&mortar merchants, and local libraries.
It will also play sample tracks of CDs scanned in, etc.

P.S. I was going to place this in Unrelated to Life Extension but thought it applicable enough since these devices will monitor our health and more in the future. Move if you do not think it merits this forum.

What I would like for my (upcoming) Android phone is a calendar/scheduler type system. Just speak into the phone when you have a meeting or appointment, or described a new contact, whatever, and the software automatically translates and updates your contact list and calendar, which you can then access in the cloud from any device or computer.

Nice, it sounds doable. I wonder how the voice recognition would be on a high end 'Gphone'.

Some more apps:
enkin
This one is much like the virtual reality glasses that were being made that allowed you to look at something, such as a building, and get a slew of information about it.

Em-Radar
It alerts you about emergencies and severe weather anywhere, any time.

Wow, I thought there were cooler iphone apps than this but after a search, albeit a short search, the best thing I found was this:

iZOHO an office suite for the iphone, very useful

If anyone knows of cooler Iphone apps add them here.

I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of great apps, it seems google's initiative has produced the best and those with the most potential.

Myfitnesspal is an app for iphone i have found quite useful, it is a calorie counter, you set a goal weight for yourself and it calculates what your healthy calories intake for the day should be under. you then look up the foods you ate for lunch, it has many brand name items, and it totals up the nutritional value ie. how much of your daily vitamin C was in the orange you ate and so on. I Have been using it for one month and have been eating alot healthier and lost 7 lbs so far.

It's a free app check it out, and if you don't have an iphone you can use the program at the website myfitnesspal.com

Cheers!

This forum software does support mobile devices, and if you browse ImmInst on an iPhone/Android it should do it automatically. I was actually surprised by how nice it is, works great.

My ideal Mobile Phone App would be software receiving data from a sensor implanted in my body constantly measuring every health statistic possible, heart beat, temperature, activity levels, digestion status, insulin, you name it I want it! I'm quite confident I will get this (eventually!).

I haven't had a chance to try it myself but there is an android app called vlingo which does voice commands and I think can do at least some of the functionality that you are looking for. You can definitely sync your calendar and contact lists, the google stuff syncs automatically and it's pretty easy to set up things like exchange to sync.
