How we currently stand:
Most Nominated - 22
Most Talked About - 1
Most Emailed - 220!!!
Most Viewed - 16
Recently Updated - 13

Do they still update the statistics and will they contribute to their choice in the end? I guess talk on the message board is the most important (is it the same as comments?). Should we e-mail more?

EDIT: bolded for emphasis, I think we should simply use their e-mail feature to improve our rank, 220 does not look that good at all.

I think the stats are still updated. We are having a faq meeting at 4pm cst time today. That would be a good thing to look up for that. Read through what you can at the site and we'll all talk about it. What do you mean by email? Do you mean emailing to get people to vote? If so then yes, but I implore you to hold off for now and get in with us, we will fully start recruiting votes again after the ninth and have some structure specific toward round 2 going. Comments are indeed the same as discussion board at the AEMP site as far as I can tell.

Meeting to discuss the aemp faq

here, at 4pm cst time today.

Im looking through google "adwords". It let me create a tiny square ad with words and no graphics in it. It can only fit something like, "Vote for your life, Vote for Undergrads Fighting Agre Related Diseases @ Ameri*** Exp***".

So I might go with that. I need feedback on it first though. It says that it charges you per click, but I cant find where it says how much the average traffic is, and how much a click is. If you know or can find it then let me know.

I also dont know about the wording of the ad, if you have any feedback on it then let me know. It only lets you have 95 characters in the ad.

If I end up doing this then Ill be putting $100.00 into it. If anybody wants to match that amount to add to it then let me know.

If you are familiar with other ads and pricing and effectiveness then please let us know right away.

Let's not forget to use LinkedIn. We could maybe target people in specific industries this way. Just a thought. I mean... we might get booted for spam, but certainly within our own networks. Lemme edit this post when I find out about linkedin's rules n stuff. brb

Do not upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available or initiate any content that: includes any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, “junk mail,” “spam,” “chain letters,” “pyramid schemes,” or any other form of solicitation. This prohibition includes but is not limited to (a) using LinkedIn invitations to send messages to people who don’t know you or who are unlikely to recognize you as a known contact; (b) using LinkedIn to connect to people who don’t know you and then sending unsolicited promotional messages to those direct connections without their permission; and © sending messages to distribution lists, newsgroup aliases, or group aliases.

Nothin says we can't just ask some professionals how we should best achieve this vote drive :-D

Today's meeting starts now!

if you tell friends about voting, in the street or at a dinner, you can tell them: http://www.fightard.org
It's simpler than http://www.memberspr...ect/view/BVVE2C and it shows MFURI as an example (if you want another name, ufard.org or vote-against-aging.org, or whatever, tell me to create it).

I just read the bio of Sanjay Gupta and a review of his book 'Chasing Life' , what a pleasant surprise, he's interested in life extension.
An excerpt of his book.

Some ideas and questions:
We might work on getting articles published at some major health portals. Asking/E-mailing doesn't hurt even if they refuse.

This time around we need someone to PM/e-mail all imminst members, it's a waste of time to selectively PM hundreds of members (which I did in round #1), if it can be done that easily.

Let's try once again to get into Kurzweil's newsletter? Support from lef, alcor do they have newsletters? Lef publishes an e-magazine as far as I know.

How's the youtube-video going? It'd be great if it was up at the 9th, I'd really like to start  pushing it up the ranks. Youtube is quite a powerful tool.

Recruitment on other boards? If you post on other non-related boards try to advertise the project in your sig, but I think anything else is a waste of time. I don't think I recruited many people in round 1  from other communities. Maybe one can try to recruit on science/medicine boards.

Once again publish an article on digg.com, but we'd need 100-400 diggs to make an impact, no?

Support from Larry Ellis*n and O*acle? Any chance?

Who's funding some of the advertising? Members? Thank you brokenportal! Imminst, mfoundation? If the mfoundation and imminst together invested something like 10k$ and then the project won at least 100k$, well that's what I call a win-win situation. If we don't win, we still got to advertise our cause!

Just tell me anything else I can do. I'll try to help.

members project - FAQ - a summary:

Out of 1190 projects, and partly based on previous nominations (Undergrads Fighting Age Related Disease #22) or other criteria (clearly met IMHO), 12 experts are currently selecting 25 projects. The winning projects will then ONLY depend on American Express Cardholder VOTES (only American Express Card issued by American Express in the United States; no influence of discussions/experts' views/etc):
- From September 9th to September 29th: votes are reset to zero and American Express Cardholders can vote ONCE for one of the 25 selected projects. This selects the 5 funded projects.
- From September 30th to October 13th: votes are reset to zero and American Express Cardholders can vote ONCE for one of the 5 funded projects. This selects the amount: $1.5 billions for the most voted, then $0.5, $0.3, $0.1, and $0.1 again.

While the project is a new idea (Amex's fund can make it possible thas it is developped), not a particular organization, the submitter of the project can have suggested an organization (eg the Methuselah Foundation/MFURI). Now people can promote any organizations they want to, via press, blogs, etc, but at the end, American Express will make the final selection of the fulfilling organization. In particular, American Express seeks organizations that have the scale, demonstrated track record of fiscal responsibility, and success in implementing similar projects

To get an American Express card: https://www201.ameri...=76/22446/b/260
No fee during the first year, then 125$ per year until cancelled. I didn't find on the website how to cancel.
For more information than the FAQ: 1-800-AXP-1234 or by email

Uhh.... I'm confused. We didn't make the top 25, yet some projects who received less nominations and FAR less discussion on the message boards made it into round 2.

I'd like to see official statements by the advisory board regarding how they chose the top 25.

To get an American Express card: [snip]

I guarantee there are cards you can get for free and even be paid for doing so.

This could be a good thing though. We're organized now, and we were catching up. If we stay organized, we could do better statistically, and make the top 5, even if the advisory board picks shit

Because some of the advisory board is sympathetic to this mission. We gotta not have the attitude that we think people will think we're crazy. That's the exact opposite of what we want. We know this initiative would be great for college medical and biological programs. We need to know that they'll know what they need to know to let others know.

By the way, speaking on the viability of basic research into aging, and the argument of aging as a basic biological function. So is sleeping, right? Don't we have all sortsa drugs to alter that? Aren't we learning how it works?

Hey Joel, care to explain what is going on with the "top 25" and the advisory board, and if MFURI is still in the running.

Now that we're no longer in the running, I'd like to turn people's attention to the member's project Loans that Change Lives.

Loans that Change Lives is an internet based platform that allows everyday people to become “social investors”. Imagine – with $25, a credit card, and an internet connection, anybody in the world can invest in the life of a deserving entrepreneur. The site allows for lenders to sort pre-screened businesses by region, culture, or business category; and see a photo / profile of the person they are supporting.

By empowering the working poor, this approach to fight poverty allows for families to have a sustainable livelihood. In some cases, traditional donations are a short term fix. Microloans really allow for families (women, men, and children) to prosper, and businesses to flourish generation after generation.

To me, this project has the most potential to change the world in the long run. Many other projects are aimed at only one particular location, whereas this project aims to empower people all over the developing world in a way that can really transform some of those regions.

While this project may not be directly related to aging or disease research, in the long run the eradication of poverty in third-world countries is vital to our mission in many ways.
