For those interested....

Job Position:

Position Description

Sirtris, a GlaxoSmithKline company, is developing small molecule drugs that target the sirtuins, a recently discovered family of seven enzymes associated with the aging process. Modulation of these enzymes offers the promise of drug discovery in multiple therapeutic areas.

As Head of Research you will be a member of the Sirtris leadership team and will be responsible for the overall scientific and managerial leadership of a group of medicinal chemists and biologists. Working with your leadership team, you will have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of innovative strategies for multiple research targets, ensuring efficient progression of lead optimization efforts, and identifying and implementing new technologies to enhance drug discovery. You will work closely with the Sirtris specific Scientific Advisory Board consisting of most of the leaders in the field of sirtuin biology (see more details www.sirtrispharma.com).

As a member of the Sirtris DPU Leadership team, you will participate actively in the portfolio decision-making process including decisions on target selection and prosecution strategy. In addition, you will assume responsibility for overseeing the development and implementation of patent strategies for the programs, as well as implementation of Safety and Data Integrity policies.

The ability to operate at the PhD level is essential although achievement of a formal qualification at this level is not critical. Additionally, you must have a successful track record in medicinal chemistry or biology/biochemistry background, have experience of leading multidisciplinary teams through lead generation and can see and communicate how all the pieces fit together, while at the same time challenging your own and other lines to maximize both value for the organization and scientific excellence. This scientific challenge will be supported by a level of gravitas and credibility derived from your track record and personal contribution. You should be recognized as an accomplished drug hunter and well versed in the challenges of target identification through to candidate selection.

It is essential that you are comfortable working in a complex matrix organization, working closely with other groups to ensure smooth and efficient progression of research programs. Additionally you will need to be tenacious in the pursuit of the long term strategy and not be sidetracked from the building of quality leads. This is likely to require someone who enjoys a challenge, who will push and drive deliverables and is prepared to make timely (and possibly contentious) decisions. Being mindful of how best to influence others and integrate broad thinking for effective implementation are also important attributes.

Join Sirtris where we are creating revolutionary medicines for diseases of aging. We hope you will see this as a unique opportunity to work in a fun, collaborative, and creative environment with leading edge science.

To apply, please forward your resume to careers@sirtrispharma.com

Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, 200 Technology Square, Cambridge, MA 02139

Sirtris will only accept job applications from candidates who are properly documented with authorization to work in the United States.

Note to Employment Agencies: Please do not forward any agency resumes. Sirtris is not responsible for any fees related to resumes that are unsolicited.

Let me know if one of you gets it!

Cheers
Anthony Loera

Things have changed. Gravitas was important 8 years ago. It gave us Cheney.
Now people clamor for a pit bull with lipstick. What's the other word for female dog?
Now I get it. Is gravitas needed to be Head of Research at Sirtris? I don't think Cheney will apply. He's needed at Halliburton. May be a
Shaklee vendor will. That will be real cool.
