When I was younger (age 6 to 15), I spent a considerable amount of time outside playing sport or other activities. Being of northern European lineage, I burned / peeled on numerous occasions but would ultimately achieve a tan. Starting in my late teens, I became very conscious of sun exposure and adopted a regimen to protect / cover my skin on a daily basis. Currently, I am age 24 and my skin does not look sun damaged at all...most people guess my age as being at least 5 years younger than my actual chronological age. I worry that this past sun damage will haunt me later in life.

My questions are:

1. How permanent is sun damage in early youth?

2. If one maintains limited sun exposure and a healthy lifestyle, can old UV damage repair itself?

3. What else can be done to repair past UV damage?

1.as far as I've heard you have sun damage detectable by screening but not directly noticeable. It is probably permanent but won't show up if you don't expose yourself anymore.

2. yes old UV damage can at least partly repair itself.

3. carbon dioxide laser
