Here is a quick list of past suggestions from memory:

Active Topics Features.

1) Show Tracked Topics.
2) Show Tracked Forums.
3) Hide Ignored Topics.
4) Hide Ignored Forums.
5) [number] of most active topics past [period].
6) [number] of most read topics past [period].
7) Show Past [number] of viewed threads.
8) Show Past [number] of participated threads.
9) Members/Navigators selection of current important topics.
10) Important announcements.
11) Show recent moderator activity (can of worms opened). :)

That's just of the top if my head in a few minutes. Plenty of other features could be added, including advanced options for each feature. All those features should be opt in/out IMO. The default settings is a political discussion. Im agnostic on the defaults as long as the opt in/out settings are obviously available.

Alright I am having a WTF?!? moment.

Lat week many of the options on that list were available for the main active topics filter at the bottom right hand corner. Now they are available but only when you search the individual forum.

I suspect but I do not have the time to search it out, that some of this may be related to which browser is being used. I think I was in Safari when I saw the options but I thought it was Firefox. At the moment they do not appear in either Firefox or IE8 on the active topics page but do appear as I said on the actual front page of each forum. Take a look on the bottom right hand corner of a main forum category like Bioscience to see what I am referring to.

I don't see any of those options in my browser. I use the Topic Tracking feature from the options menu, but its a really bad implementation. I could make something that works a lot better. Also, the main idea is to make a page that gives an immediate overview of new and relevant (to user specification) conversation without any click-through (including Active Topics).

That is strange. What browser are you using? I still see the options located in the Forum area I linked for example. I am in Firefox.

They should be better located anyway and I agree that this does not mitigate the need for multiple Active Topics buttons with select categories I was just pointing out that at least some of us (should be all of us frankly) have some of this selectivity now.

At least sorting by member, hot topics, recent topics, etc.

What browser are you using?

I tried both IE7 and FireFox 3. Perhaps I am misunderstanding which features you are talking about. I do see the sorting feature and the options menu for the forum. Unfortunately those options are not very effective. The Topic Tracking feature is largely useless because it does not allow for sorting of the topics. The Forum Tracking features still requires clicking through all the forums in that list. A functional Selective feature on Active Topics would do allot to clean up the mess, but I think an Ignore Topic/Forum feature would do much more since you would be able to be selective on a Topic level.

Anyway, I have plenty of ideas and creativity to solve any problems that might arise from implementation of those ideas. I am however done arguing as it has lead to almost nothing in the past. It looks like we are soon hitting critical mass on the annoyance level of the Active Topics mess. Perhaps if enough people start complaining there will be an incentive for change.

Eventually I would like to develop a communication portal for life extension topics. Something that would facilitate both communication and collaboration on projects. I have some ideas on how to distribute funds for projects, including a honor system that allows trust to be established. That could make it easier to assemble teams for projects. Currently each member is required to evaluate trust on their own. I think the community could be much more effective if such things where shared in a transparent way.

Any progress on this? Any more ideas anybody? We need people who know programming to help with this. If you know programming then let us know here.

The original intent of this post was to see if I could get it to get more people to go into the "Immortality Institute" forum by bumping the link to it in this topic. I was hoping it would generate more activity in more radical life extension progression orientated topics.

Im bumping it again for that purpose. If there were a bump option in options then I would request that it be locked and then bump it like that. In any case, Im writing this to bump this topic again for the purpose.

As to the dialogue that has developed, they have sent lightowl into the matrix to try to remedy the situation. May the force be with you young lightowl, and lifespeed to you.
