Hi!

I am new to this forum but have been reading the Skin forum for a very long time.
I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Obagi regime?
Mostly what you think of using Hydroquinone and Retin-A together.
Would you use Obagi products or not? Can you also give the reason to your answer?

All answers are greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't use hydroquinone, do a search on this forum and on the internet to find out. Something like "hydroquinone cancer" in google should be sufficient.

Re. this obagi: Give us some more information. E.g.: Which products are you using, what are their full names, what are their ingredients, etc.

Thank you!
I use Obagi Nu-derm: www.obagi.com

AM:
Clear
Ingredients: 4% Hydroquinone, Purified water, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Asorbic Acid, Sodium Metabisulfite, Lactic Acid, Saponins, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben, BHT, Propylparaben and Butylparaben

Exfoderm
Ingredients: Phytic Acid 3%, Purified water, Ethoxydiglycol, Phytic Acid, Glycerine, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Laurate, Canola, Isohexadecane, potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Cetyl Alcohol, Bis-diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2. Polydimethylsiloxane, polysorbate 60, Steareth-20. PEG-150 Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycereth-7, Xantham Gum, Tocopheryl Acetate, Saponis, Phenoxythanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben

Sunscreen: Bioderma: Mineral sunscreen SPF50+

PM:
Clear
Ingredients: 4% Hydroquinone, Purified water, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Asorbic Acid, Sodium Metabisulfite, Lactic Acid, Saponins, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben, BHT, Propylparaben and Butylparaben

Blender 1/2 inch
4% Hydroquinone, Water, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, PPG-2 Myristyl Ether Propionate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, TEA-Salicylate, Lactic Acid, Phenyl Trimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Metabisulfite, Ascorbic Acid, Methylparaben, Complex 272 (saponins), Disodium EDTA, BHT, Propylparaben

Retin-A (0,05% Tretinoin) 1 inch
0,05% Tretinoin, Butylated hydroxytoluene, Isopropyl myristate, Polyoxyl 40 stearate, Sorbic acid, Stearic acid, Stearyl alcohol, Xanthan gum,
Purified water

I have used these products for 4 months every day and night. The results are amaizing!
Initially I started using them for acne, acne scars after having tried everything for 8 years. Previously I have used Retin-A and Differine for 8 years combined with products containing various strength of Glycolic Acid and/or Azaelic Acid and Vitamin C.
Nothing seemed to help.
The mix of Hydroquinone, Tretinoin and Phytic Acid helped immensely. It also dramatically ereased my lines and wrinkles even around my eyes! I never seen anything like this!

But then I thought with so much effect there must be a down-side.
Hence my question: has anybody here used Obagi Nu-Derm?
Would you recommend using this system?

Again, thank you so much for your answers!

Hi Lilly,

Sorry to have been so delayed in my response. (My Mom is an insulin dependent Type 1 diabetic currently in kidney failure. All matters fall second.)

As to the OBAGI nu-derm products, I've used two:

The Foaming Gel cleanser I found disappointing. It does not sufficiently remove my Euro High PPD sunscreen. Also I wasn't thrilled by the cherry fragrance nor red coloring. For $US50 I can do better.

However! :) The Action moisturiser works beautifully for me. It's quite bland and very effective. I use it to buffer my Retin-A and Taz. I find it very soothing, hydrating and non-comedogenic.

I am glad the system is working for you!

Best, Em

Obagi Nu-derm is a very good system for serious facial rejuvenation for us who do not seek the alternative of surgery.
However as it is always the case with these kind of serious medical regimes it is crucial to use it under dermatological guidance!
If you use this system as it is prescribed you can achieve excellent results and you can maintain it as well.
I would not recommend using HQ for longer than the period of the treatment (18 weeks usually). One could use a creme with 20% Azaleic Acid + 15% Glycolic Acid instead.
I would also recommend the every day usage of a high concentration L-Ascorbic Acid serum (20% Vitamin C) along with an EU sunscreen like Bioderma Photoderm or La Roche Posay Anthelios.
