Hi, thanks for reading. :)

I've got very thick, wavy, semi-curly hair - and I like it that way. I'm 24 now, and over the past few years, I've noticed my hair going limp, straight, and an increasing rate of "shedding."
I've also noticed that each individual hair seems to be thinner than they were when I was, say, 20. Also, the overall appearance is somewhat lighter than it was at that time (previously black, now dark brown.)

I've been taking multi-vitamins regularly for about a year, I make sure to eat a healthy amount of natural fats, I apply cholesterol to my hair, only wash it in cold water, etc...

What can I do for my hair? It's like a plant dying up there. :( I'm not going bald - and couldn't, genetically.

Remember this thread? Hair thinning is another symptom amongst those issues you mentioned about your sleep/hyperactivity and nighttime urination issues. (Kidney Deficiency + Liver Heat + Blood Deficiency) Add seaweed to your diet. Wakame and hijiki are easy to add to "mixed" dishes like casseroles or cooked-oats/grains or soups. Also consider taking nettles and chlorella as a supplement as these also have Blood tonifying properties like those seaweeds and all described thus far will help with the Liver Heat (which dries out Kidney Yin). The seaweeds will also help to build/retain Kidney Yin. Toss in heaps of parsley and roasted walnuts and you've got the Kidney Yang covered. If you can find concorde type grapes you should eat those as well for the Blood tonifying nature and also since they create more fluids for the Kidney and Liver meridians. If you're going to eat meat make it chicken and beef (chicken is great for building Kidney Jing and beef is great for tonifying Blood). Do keep these portions small as meat and fats stagnate the Liver which will create more Heat there thus drying out the Blood and Yin/Kidney/Liver and exacerbating your symptoms. Eating smaller meals would also benefit you meaning increase quality and decrease quantity. I'm willing to help on that front if you just let me know.

***Luckily it should be rather easy to fix with herbs/acupuncture. Thick, curly and black hair are all the traits of someone with a very strong congenital constitution. If you went to a TCM doctor merely for your hair issue I promise those other symptoms will go away also. * I promise. *

Use regular, warmish water to wash you hair (but no need for shampoos, just run water through 'til it's "less oily feeling"). Cold water will only constrict the blood vessels in the scalp reducing further the lack of nutrition reaching the follicles. Massage the scalp with a handheld massager or a non-scratching brush/comb on a daily basis (right before bed / upon waking up / midday as a way to unwind from work / while watching tv or perusing the internet).

I would avoid "too much" exercise right now since you don't want to burn up or dehydrate the low levels of Yin/Blood/fluids in the body. Just break a light sweat and hold it for 5-10 minutes. It's better if you do this twice a day than doing a single 30-45 minutes.

What is with all the chinese medicine stuff? I've tried some strange stuff in my time but that doesn't seem to be based on anything except feel-good stories. Having said that, if you do actually try some of the above methods, let me know how it works. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

If you check out my blog, you can see that I don't really recommend biotin or MSM either. Neither had any effect on me, so if were you, I'd save my money for something else. You could always go for Nizoral + Rogaine (+ Finasteride, but you said you're not going bald, so maybe that's not a good idea).
