hi guys,

my mom is seriously mentally sick.. she is very depressed, even suicidal...
I don't know what to do about it, how to talk to her etc. She freaks out about minor things and threatens to kill herself very often.

what kind of anti-depressant would you recommend to her?
and also, will she get sicker by going to the psychatrist? I cant imagine that this will improve her situation, it will prbly put her in the "depressed freak" mode, since she associates the psychatrist with mentally sick people.. (self fulfilling prophecy..)

what to do? :(

Please immediately take your mum to a psychiatrist. From your post it's obvious to me that she is need of professional care, I don't think there is much else this forum can tell you.

You do need to take this seriously. I found the following websites. Each has helpful information, plus lots of free 800 numbers to call. Many are geared toward people contemplating suicide. You should give this information to your mother, and I also think you should call on her behalf.

If you have siblings, friends or relatives who care about you or your mother, tell them what's going on. They may be able to help. But remember: You ultimately cannot control the actions of anybody else--and it isn't your fault. Above all, take care of yourself and your own happiness. This IS in your control and will put you in a better position to help your mom.

Ditto on that. When people threaten to kill themselves, they often do carry through. She sounds like she needs meds ASAP. If I were you I'd make an appointment for her TODAY.

well your mom is mentally sick, and perhaps that association will allow her to realize it and seek help. i would do as suggested and get her to see a psychiatrist immediately, by force if necessary considering her suicidal tendencies.
