Obama named Eric Holder for the position of Attorney General. He is a lawyer. It seems natural that a lawyer will oversee matters of the
law. Attorney Generals, Supreme Court members and judges are always lawyers.
The newest nomination for a cabinet position is Bill Richardson. He was Secretary of Energy under Clinton. The Department of Energy
oversees, among other things, the national labs: Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, Brookhaven, etc. Now, as far as I know Richardson studied
political science, sociology or any such other non technical stuff. It's fair to assume he doesn't understand anything happening in National
labs, or of energy policies for that matter.
Richardson was just nominated for Secretary of Commerce in the coming Obama administration. What the hell does he know about commerce?
QUESTION: How come that the only top positions in the US government which require specialists in the field have to do with the law?
