Hey guys.

So the father of a very dear friend of mine is sick with Cancer of the Pancreas and the Liver.

At best the doctors say he has a few months, but I thought I would ask for advice. What would be the best way to proceed? Resveratrol? How should he take it? From what I understand the efficacy of oral consumption isn't so great.

I'm not very knowledgeable about suplements. Any advice would be really appreciated.

ben,

one suggestion is of course, resveratrol, and lots of people will probably make it.

Here's another one:
Diamond V XPC
Diamond V XPC - helps basal cell carcinoma

You could also go for Epicor, if you want the "intended for human use" stuff.
It's more expensive, of course.

This probably won't cure the cancer, but will help support the immune system.

ben,

have you read Bill O'Rights(thefirstimmortal)'s story ?
There's probably a lot of suggestions there.
I think the topic is pinned to the top of this forum.

There's been some promising research on massive doses of injected vitamin C and cancer:

http://www.pnas.org/.../11105.abstract

And here's a more reader friendly news article about it here:

http://www.abc.net.a.../05/2324591.htm

I'm not a doctor so I'm not going to tell you do this but if I or someone I loved had cancer, I'd certainly look into this.

After a second reading I noticed that he has cancer of both the pancreas and liver? I assume it started in the liver and has spread to the pancreas? Unfortunately that's a very dire situation. Once cancer is mobile and spreading I'm not sure there are many treatments pharmaceutical or otherwise that are going to make a big impact, especially when the pancreas is involved. Pancreatic cancer isn't as well known as some of the others but its unfortunately one of the most deadly. Its certainly not a bad thing to try to do what you can to help extend the time he has left. But at this point I'd say offering comfort and helping him accept his diagnosis and its consequences is also very important.

Thanks so much guys.

Yes, the situation is very grim I'm afraid.

I really appreciate your suggestions though. For me it's a question of whether to pester my friend with advice that could be potentially helpful in a best case scenario, or to just try to be supportive in other ways. A tough call, but I'm better prepared to make it if I'm armed with the info, so thanks again.

You could also look into redox cycling therapy using large oral doses of vitamin c. The basic idea is to use ascorbate as a pro-oxidant that generates hydrogen peroxide to kill tumour cells. The vitamin c is used with lipoic acid that recycles the ascorbate so it can be used in another cycle of peroxide generation. There are a number of papers on this. Also look at the work of Steve Hickey, who has been at the forefront of promoting this form of cancer treatment (his book The Cancer Breakthrough is certainly worth a read).

I would also look at oral gluamine supplementation - both for anti-tumour effects and also to protect from some of the side-effects of chemo and radiation (assuming that he has those).

Good luck to your buddy's father.

Is that doable? How do you get a doctor to do something like that?
