Wow, their stuff looks really good. I'm going to switch from the Jarrow FamilE when I use it up. Thanks nameless.

Happen to know the half-life for the various vitamin E fractions? The one thing I dislike about the AC Grace product is the dosage. It's a lot higher than I prefer. But if half-life is long enough, maybe 1 or 2 pills weekly would work out okay.

I suppose I should do some vitamin E research. Once the doses become a lot higher than what populations get via food, I get wary.

Yeah, the dosage is higher than I would want too. Maybe you can cut open the soft-gel and dilute the liquid in coconut oil. I noticed that A.C. Grace has a liquid product, which would make this easier, but it seems to contain soy oil. I think I too will switch to this brand from FamilE. Thanks!

Half Life of RRR-alpha-tocopherol is 48 hrs. (SRR is 13 hrs or so)
gamma-tocopherol is 15 hrs.

http://books.google....C...fe&pg=PA198

The book also says that the liver maintains the level of RRR-alpha tocopherol in the blood, leading to the longer half-life.

The liquid sounds better. I wonder if it has enough gamma-tocopherol, It's less than FamilE.

Thanks for the info on the half-lives. An every other day routine would almost work... for the alpha, anyway. The liquid looks like the better option and you can control dosing then. I may consider that one, although I usually take around RDA levels -- I need around 1/40th of a tsp. Maybe a couple of drops would be equivalent? Might not be a bad idea to put a drop or two in when I take my Carlson fish oil, as it could help with potential oxidation issues.

I noticed that A.C. Grace has a liquid product, which would make this easier, but it seems to contain soy oil.

I'm pretty sure that means it's soy-derived, but doesn't contain actual soy oil. Almost all vitamin E from supplements is soy derived. Of if synthetic, petroleum.

And it may be a guessing game as if it's enough gamma or not. It's really a guessing game if vitamin E above a certain level is even beneficial. I'm not aware of a single longterm study using vitamin E with gamma. Dietary-wise, Americans primarily consume gamma, while Europeans consume more alpha (if that means anything).

Funk, iirc you mentioned in another thread that you were not impressed with the lack of evidence of worth and/or safety of tocotrienols. (Or was it someone else?) If so, is that the main driver of a switch from FamilE to the Grace product? Like a lot of other people, the dose scares me on the Grace stuff. The FamilE tocotrienols are just a little palm fruit distillate; would it be imprudent to assume that you'd get some amount of tocotrienols in popcorn, or maybe palm hearts? Probably not a comparable dose...

I don't think any human diet anywhere contains large amounts of tocotrienols. You can check the toco thread, as I recall someone (whoever has that nice blog) looking into getting tocotrienols from diet. You'd need to eat an awful lot of red palm oil or annato seeds to get the equivalent as found in supplements, and I'm not aware of any populations that eat that strangely.

Same could be said for high dose tocopherols too though. Nobody gets that much vitamin E from diet either.

I am turned off to FamilE by the combination of tocopherols with tocotrienols which negates the effect of the tocotrienols, as well as the use of soybean oil as a base. I flip flop around on the tocotrienol issue but if you are going to pay for them and ingest them I think they ought to be absorbed.

Hey Funk,

Where did you see that tocopherols negate tocotrienols when taken together?

Thanks

The issue was discussed on the tocotrienol thread I created a few weeks ago (found here http://www.imminst.o...nts-t30160.html). The information was provided by AC Grace, but I'm not sure how reliable the study is.
