Reading a number of threads and blogs on Vitamin D (like Whole Health Source), it seems that increased Vitamin D requires increased Vitamin A. I am planning on radically bumping up my Vitamin D intake from 1,000 IU to 5,000 IU per day. But I am a little worried that I'll end up being deficient in Vitamin A. This is an even greater issue for my parents, especially my mother who is diabetic, who I also plan to put on a high Vitamin D regimen; I can't get her to eat enough naturally high Vitamin A foods. I also plan to put both of them on Vitamin K2.

What are people's thoughts on Vitamin A needs when on taking high levels of Vitamin D? How much per day is required? Any recommendations on supplemental forms of Vitamin A?

There was a Vitamin A thread a few days ago in which the issue came up. These were some of the replies:

I believe that you shouldn't take a high amount of vitamin A, and your vitamin D intake should consist solely of vitamin D3, and should be higher than your vitamin A intake. So maybe something like: 5000IU vitamin D3, and 2000IU natural vitamin A (total supplemental + food intake).

Read the following, and after you are done, stay on the extra safe side by instead of a 10:1 ratio of A to D, stick to a 6:1 ratio of D to A. 6000IU of vitamin D3 to 1000IU of natural vitamin A (retinol).

Ah, thanks! Wouldn't happen to have the link to that thread, would you? Can't seem to find it.

And I am trying to find a Vitamin A supplement that is less than 10,000 IUs. Kind of hard to go with a 6 to 1 D to A ratio when the Vitamin A supplements generally start at 10,000 IUs.

What Vitamin A supplements do folks here take?
